I was so anti-minivan for so long I swore up and down I'd never drive one.... until DH brought one home for me to test drive. It's so incredibly handy I've never looked back. 3rd row SUVs were $10-15K more and not nearly as easy to access the 3rd row. Not to mention the built in DVD players stow anc go etc.
What sealed the deal and my love of the van was our road trip last summer. DD1 was 2.5, DD2 was 6mos. We installed the baby seat in the 3rd row and folded down the second row captains chair on one side. When the baby woke up I would just climb back to the back seat and sit next to her to feed, play with her, calm her whatever. Then when she was back asleep I'd pop back up to the front with DH. Not having a toddler swing a door open and hit the neighbouring car in parking lots is also super awesome.
I figure we'll be van people for the next 10 or so years.

@birdofafeather: N was 7 months old when we bought the Odyssey. I have to say, holding the infant seat, the diaper bag, two little hands (with one of my hands) in a parking lot while struggling to unlock the car and open the door for them to get in was really, really challenging!

We were leaving the peds office and I had DS open his car door to get in but I was standing behind it (there was no way I could scoot all of them toward to back of the car, in a busy parking lot to open the door and have them get in), while B got in, E started wandering. I needed to be able to open the car door and see them get in.

Unless you have a big age gap, I don't know how people do it without a minivan!

I just got the Acadia Denali and it has a ton of room! Plus the captains chairs in the second row slide forward and fold so getting in the 3rd row is super easy. I totally see the pros of a minivan but since I only have 1 now and plan to have a 3.5-4 yr age gap, I'm holding on to the suv as long as I can!!

    SUV. I love our SUV!

I grew up loving vans though.
