Is the changing pad secured to the dresser? My plan was to put our changing pad on top of the dresser but my mom pointed out that the pad might move when a wiggling baby is on it. If you secured it, what did you use? If not, how do you keep the pad from moving around or is that not a problem?

Ours isn't yet, but it's on my list of things to do this week. We bought the Summer changing pad and it came with a strap and instructions on how to secure it to the back of the dresser.

We didnt secure it. Honestly, I didn't want to screw anything into the dresser or attach velcro to it because I'm hoping it'll last throughout her childhood. We had some of that sticky padding stuff you can put on a shelf or drawer under it to keep it from sliding. It worked well but it also caused damage to the top of the dresser after being on it for a year. Also, when she was a baby she didn't wiggle around enough to actually cause the pad to move anyway. Now that she's almost 2, it definitely moves around but I don't worry about her falling b/c I'm standing right next to it anyway.

do yourself a favour a get a Keekaroo Peanut Changing Pad...it is the WORLDS GREATEST BABY GEAR INVENTION and worth every penny!!! You will thank yourself every time your little angel decides peeing/pooping in the open air is so much more refreshing .

we have a sort of foam kind of changer (looks like its similar to the keekaroo mentioned above, but smaller), and it doesn't slide.

@BeachMama: all of this exactly. I haven't checked for damage from the sticky pad but there was already some damage to the top anyway. I'm more worried about her launching herself off the pad than the pad sliding around.

We didn't secure ours...oops. It really doesn't slide much at all unless you pull/push on it.

Ours isn't secured and it's not a problem. LO tries to escape but the pad still doesn't move much.

Our dresser came with a top to create two enclosed areas. The changing pad goes in one so it's secured on all four sides.

Ours is on a counter, not secured and doesn't move enough for me to worry. I'm right against it anyways, so don't worry at all!

@char54: @NorCalWayfarer: Yes! I also love the Keekaroo and its cousin the Soft Gear changing pad (which is the one we have). We put a rubber drawer liner under the changing pad, and it keeps the changing pad from sliding around.

Ours has straps, but I didn't attach them. It's just sitting on the dresser. I'm always standing there, so I'm not that worried.

It should be and there is a way with our dresser and changing pad, but we never did AND never had a problem. It doesn't slip. -
@foodnerd81 - yeah, the sticky pad left some residue on the top of the dresser that won't come off. If she's anything like I was though, she'll probably do plenty of damage to it herself over the years anyway!

I bought some shelf liner that I cut to size and put it under the changing pad. It doesn't slide.

Our changing pad has rubbery nubs on the bottom so with the weight of the baby it does not slide! Never had a problem.

Ours is not. It has the strap, but we never did attach it. The rubber on the bottom of it is sufficient enough. We are always right there if we are changing her, so it isn't like we couldn't catch her if something happened (but it has yet to in 17 months)

We screwed it into the back of the dresser or the wall behind it! Stayed in place very well.

We have a cot-top one and it came with straps to secure it but since LO has been sleeping in her cot and therefore we have had to remove it every time she takes a nap, we have stopped securing it! You have to keep a hand on the baby at all times anyway, especially once the baby starts wriggling so it doesn't seem too big a deal to me to have it unsecured!

Ours came with a strap to secure it to the back, but we never did. I bought a rug pad and cut it to size to put under the changing pad so it doesn't slide at all and that seems to do the trick! Xander is almost 14 months and we haven't had any issues of the pad moving, just squirmy baby moving!

Our pad just sits on the dresser and we've never had a problem. It has straps, but we never attached them. I personally think those trays that sit on top are a waste of money ($100 usually), but if you or your SO can make one, that wouldn't be a bad idea.

Our dresser is a flip-style, meaning the changing pad tray is actually the bottom of the dresser, and the whole thing will flip over to a flat-top when we're out of diapers. The pad fits well without much wiggling, but there are straps to attach if we need it.

I never attached ours. As L started getting bigger it does move around a little, but I'm standing right in front of her so it's not going to fall off. It's not like I leave her on there if I'm not right there.
The most annoying part would be when I accidentally grab some of the fabric from the changing pad and it falls on the floor as I'm picking L up. Minor issue and it doesn't happen that often.

I never secured ours, I thought, "Well I'm standing right here, what could happen?"
Well, let me tell you what could happen! L was bouncing and kicking so hard one day that the top of the changing pad (where his head was) slipped off the dresser, and the whole thing came tumbling down and he fell head-first. Yep, I was standing right there and immediately lunged for him...but stuff can happen in a split second! After that I went out and bought some sticky shelf liner, we haven't had a problem since then.

Ours isn't secured, and it's totally not a problem. It's not like you are going to leave your little one unattended on the changing table. You'll be standing right there with your hands on the baby changing their diaper.
