ours is not secured. We never leave LO unattended. So far it has worked for us for 19 months

We bought a dresser second hand that has a removable frame around the top. This keeps the changing pad in place. That said, our changing pad has a couple of straps attached that I'm sure were designed to be secured to the wall or the dresser to prevent baby from wiggling it off.

Ours is secured, it came with a strap that you can screw into the back of the dresser. I feel like it slides all over the place and am so glad to have it attached - I highly recommend doing it.
