This is my personal theory - if you're 1st two is the same sex (same father) then so will your third. This is the case with probably 80% of the people I know. So I'm preparing myself that #3 is also a boy

@ladybee: I only have 2 (girls) for now, but I'm the oldest of 4 kids. In my family, it went girl, girl, boy, girl. Maybe that gives you hope

ETA: My mom's family was girl, girl, boy, boy, boy, girl. My dad's family was boy, boy, girl.

@skipra: you will have to pick me up off the floor if I have a girl. I'm pretty sure we just make boys.

Now I have heard of some people (like my MIL) who had 3 sons and the 4th was a girl.

@Mamasig: well 4 kids is not an option over here. If we do 3, we will be done.

Sounds like everyone has different experiences which makes me feel like there is hope if we ever decide to have a third.

@catomd00: holy cow!! That's crazy. I know someone with 6 daughters and no boys.

Obviously, like I said, it does happen. I just think in general it would be less common if more people had bigger families these days.

I have two boys, but I am one of three—two girls and then a boy. My mom is one of six—four boys, then her, then another boy.

    Pregnant with boy#3 here.

In my group of friends and family members they either start with 1 of each or have all the same. I don't know anyone IRL that had two boys then a girl or two girls then a boy.

In my family it goes girl-girl-boy.My parents basically had my brother in hopes of having a boy. My mom is one of 3 sisters and my dad is one of 4 brothers. I currently have 2 girls and we are hoping to have a third child in the next couple of years and I'm kinda hoping it's another girl. Since I know the drill with girls now. 😉

Not me, but in my circle we have:

Girl girl girl boy x 2
    Boy boy boy boy boy
    Boy boy boy girl
    Girl girl girl x 2
    Boy boy boy

And several where there is boy girl boy boy or something like that, but the first two happen to be different sexes. One family that had a boy then several girls and one more boy last.

    I still feel like it's 50/50 though!

I only have two (b/g) but my DH is one of 3 boys, in my mom's family there were 6 girls followed by 2 boys and in my dad's family there were 4 boys followed by 1 girl. IRL, I know one family with 3 girls and another with 5 girls. Seems like there could be some truth to the studies!

Most bigger families I know lean heavily one way. I know a ton of 3-boy families. I know of a 7 child family (5 boy, 2 girls) and a 10 child family (8 boys, 2 girls). I only know of 2 "girly" families - one with 4 girls and one with 4 girls and a boy.

Wah I am hoping #3 is a boy if we have a third!

I have two older brothers. DH is from a family of 3 boys.

I looked this up last night. My husband is three boys but anyone else I know with more than two has different genders.

According to the study I found, if you have two of the same sex you have a 46% chance of the third being the opposite (so a little lower, but not a ton) and a 54% chance of the fourth being the opposite (so higher with the fourth which I found interesting!)

What are the chances of a fourth baby ;)?

Most of the people I know that have 3 kids had a boy & a girl first. But I do know a family that had two boys & then a girl - and another family that had two boys & then two girls. So it does happen!

I know quite a few families with all one gender: 4 boys, 5 boys, 3 girls, 7 girls... BUT my cousin had 2 boys first then 2 girls! It's so hard to know what would happen

I only have one boy but based on all of the families I know, I fully expect to have about a 70% chance of having another boy. I don't think there is any science behind this but it seems so much more common for families to have boys or girls, no idea why that could be. I don't think I'd have a preference if we have another but I know everyone else would like us to have a girl next.

I asked my OB today and he said it's not that much different then 50/50 so who knows. I asked two kids at school today and one is from 4 boys and one is from 6, then his mom had a girl.
