I've never seen the name Arie but I would assume it was a girl. Ari is a boy's name to me (and will always make me think of a short angry Jewish talent agent ala Entourage!)

Thanks for chiming in all! The reason I ask is that we have planned to use Arie for a BOY for years (not preg right now). It was DHs grandpas name when he lived in Holland (it's a dutch name) but when he moved to Canada it was too "weird" (this was 60 years ago) so he changed it to Harry. We have loved the name Arie/Ari but the dutch spelling and his grandpas selling is Arie. And like @ms.janedoe and @chopsuey119 mentioned, it was the dudes name on the bachelorette.. and he was dutch! haha. I'd hate for our future son to have a feminine name, but I feel like when it is said it sounds masculine. I think Aria gaining popularity for girls is not helping my case!

DS has a boy in his class named Ari. I never heard of the name before him!

Boy because there was a guy named Ari in The Bachelorette last season, and because one of the main characters in the show Entourage is named Ari!

I think of boy for both - Ari because I've known several male Aris, and Arie because of that guy from the Bachelorette.

I see I'm in the minority! I had a friend in HS named Arianna and we called her Ari. The first time I heard Ari(e) as a boys name was on the bachelorette, and his name was Arie.

Arie- girl Ari-boy....but since Arie has special meaning I would choose that spelling.

I think Ari is a traditional Jewish boy's name (hence Ari on Entourage). For me, hearing it I would generally think boy. But if I it Arie, I would probably assume girl.
