None! I was on home bedrest from 32 weeks on, but before that MFM did not want me doing much. My dr did not even want me walking around the mall or doing laundry, although I think that's pretty conservative. I was high risk because of multiples and my dr considered the fact that they were IVF babies an extra factor, which is why he was overly cautious. I'm not a big exerciser to begin with, so I was fine with these recommendations! If you like to exercise and would have a hard time skipping it entirely, I'd probably keep it very low impact and maybe monitor your heart rate throughout your workout to make sure you're not overdoing it.

I don't know if I was technically high-risk, but I had a short cervix. My doctor told me to keep it super-light during my third tri, and then once I started dilating at ~34w(?), told me to stop completely. I think...

Thanks! I plan on talking with my OB next week about this as well. I definitely worry about pushing myself too much but I also hate gaining weight.

I was on modified best rest soooo... none! I think if no one has said you shouldn't exercise, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

@LBee: I've been told to "listen to my body." Lol, whatever that means.. Unfortunately I overdid it with my son and he was born at 34 weeks so.:: apparently I am not good at listening to my body... My nurse told me not to lift more than 15 lbs but that's impossible when you have a 20 lb 14 month old.

Well, I saw an MFM doc in the beginning with E and he put me on pelvic rest for a few weeks, with zero working out. So I listened

I've been on modified bedrest since 15 weeks due to my complete placenta previa, so no exercise (or any fun) for me.

I would only walk, I had a huge 8 cm cyst that they were watching so I was pretty much told "you can walk and that is it" and I took that seriously. It wasn't worth the risk, so we went for a morning and night walk.

@BandDmommy: I would ask for more specific directions. After reading the other comments (and knowing my own situation), I know I was given VERY specific guidelines.... even down to being uncomfortable with me going to the grocery store for more than just grabbing something.

For my second pregnancy, None at all in the third trimester - it was a decision my doctor and I came to together. From 30 weeks on I was on a modified bed rest situation.

When they told me to stay off my feet for a week, 10 days, etc -I did but after that I resumed working out keeping it lighter than I would normally. I am doing more and more low impact aerobics - I can only make it 3 times a week at most and I try to walk for 15-20 minute breaks on the trail by my office. I over exercised/pushed myself too much in the last tri of my first pregnancy and am trying to take it easier this time around to avoid bed rest and complications. Having a toddler to lift definitely makes it challenging this time around.

@twodoghouse: there's a doctor here and he ends up putting all his patients with multiples on hospital bedrest... My nurse jokes about it.. I get the scoop of all the gossip in my weekly nurse appt..

@BandDmommy: Wow! I was in the hospital on bedrest for 4 days and that was too much for me. My sister carried her twins for 39 weeks without a single complication the whole time. It'd be crazy to have made her stay in the hospital for no reason whatsoever! My dr's goal was always to keep my babies in for as long as possible, even if it meant leaving work early. I appreciated that he was really cautious, especially since it worked out for me. But not everyone has the flexible work situation that I had at the time, so that would be really hard if you had mandatory bedrest at the hospital, too.

@twodoghouse: my mommy friend had twins.. Her doctor hospitalized her and once she was released she went to term. Go figure...

@BandDmommy: @twodoghouse: Not exactly the same thing, but I was repeatedly hospitalized for pre-term labor (and bleeding) - I made it all the way to my scheduled c-section. Fun times.

I was high risk last pregnancy due to bleeding in second tri, small placental abruption. I was told pelvic rest/no exercise until I had gone 2 weeks without bleeding, but after that they were fine with light exercise (nothing strenuous), but I was a nervous wreck by that point and did nothing more than walk

@LBee: my OB threatened to hospitalize me but they couldn't stop contractions and instead I had DS.

@runnerd: it's so stressful being scared... I'm so scared my water is going to break early again
honeydew / 7230 posts
@LBee: @BandDmommy: They had to stop my contractions at 32 weeks and then I had to be induced at 38 weeks. So weird how that ends up!

I didn't do anything except light walks in my third tri.

@LuLu Mom: Where was your cyst? I had a 7 cm ovarian cyst when I was pregnant and no one said anything about there being any risks.
GOLD / wonderful olive / 19030 posts
@daniellemybelle: Right ovary, i was put on pelvic rest immediately after discovery (the first pregnancy) and it eventually started to shrink down but was to remain on pelvic rest. My second pregnancy i had one again, but it was smaller so I wasn't put on rest and was allowed to exercise more. They were concerned about it twisting/rupturing.

@LuLu Mom: Interesting! No one voiced any concern to me at all!
