@travellingbee: I was induced, it was my first pregnancy. I was 39 weeks and I think 3-4 cm dilated. I had a membrane sweep the week prior but I don't think it did much. I was only given pitocin since I was already dilated and partially effaced. My water broke after about 5 hours of increasing pit. Contractions became very painful a few hours later and I got the epidural. About 13 hours after the induction began (1.5 hours pushing) LO was born. He was big - 8 lbs 13 oz

Induced at 39 and 2 (it was the only date prior to 41 that my doctor could schedule an elective induction and we were concerned about 1) getting to hospital in time to have penicillin (GBS +) and 2) big baby. I had been 3-4 cm dilated for 3 weeks and can't remember how effaced, but my cervix was favorable.
3. Pitocin started at 9 am
4. Couldn't have gone better. Got my planned epidural around noon. Doctor broke my waters shortly after and I was 5 cm. Was 6-7 cm by 2:30, jumped to 9 cm by 3. Suddenly I was fully dilated and +2 station. The doctor literally ran from her office, I pushed for 15 minutes and had the baby slightly after 4 pm. No tearing and despite having the cord wrapped twice around his neck, baby was healthy!

1. First (was due to gestational hypertension)
2. I was 38w4d. I was only fingertip dilated at my last checkup (which was like 3 days before I was induced)
3. What method did they use? Foley bulb & pitocin
4. What was the result? (How did it go?) I had the bulb in from about 5pm Mon until they removed it in the hospital (not too long after I was admitted at 2am). Think I got to around 4cm with that & then they started pit to get me the rest of the way.

1. First pregnancy - due to being diabetic (will induce around 38-39 weeks with this pregnancy)
2. 39 weeks and went in at less than 1 cm dilated
3. Started w/ cervadil by 9 p.m., added a Foley catheter about 12 hours later, then introduced pitocin
4. Well, labor was 38 hours or so, so it was long, but it wasn't especially painful, and we had a vag delivery, so no c-section!

1. First & Second Pregnancies
2. Both at 39+2/3 - With first I was about 2cm, with 2nd I was 3/4cm. Waters had broken with both and I was induced the following morning.
3. What method did they use? Syntocin drip for both
4. What was the result? (How did it go?) Contractions were hard and fast and very intense. Labour progressed steadily with the first - drip started at about 10, baby born at 3.30. With second it took longer as baby was posterior and my epidural failed at about 8/9cm - drip started at 9.30 and baby born at 6.30.

2. Dilated 2/3cm at 41+3!
3. 1/2 or 1/4 of Cytotec/misoprostol inserted near cervix
4. Was unfamiliar with miso when doc gave as an option, but liked that I could walk around and eat after 2 hours of monitoring. They gave me the choice of that or pitocin. Midwife that was on call favored this route. Anyway, when I arrived for induction I was already having contractions 6/7 min apart. They placed it, monitored for 2 hrs in bed, then DH and I got lunch and since contx were t getting stronger we took a Long walk around the hospital grounds, got back to room as contx getting stronger (4/5 hrs after placement) the walking really got things moving. So once the contx really started to hurt to delivery was about 5 or 6 hours (pushed for an hour, huge baby and sideways)!

I was induced both times-- bishop score is more important than just your cervix dilation. I had a very favorable score both times and had vaginal deliveries. Pitocin the first time, breaking my water and waking the second, then pitocin only because I had pre-e diagnosed in labor and they needed to speed it up.

2. I think I was about 1cm dilated and 50% effaced at 41+1.
3. Started with a Foley bulb and then got a small amount of pitocin throughout the day (on about the lowest level you can get, I think).
4. It went really well! I got the epidural as planned and had a vaginal delivery. The whole thing took about 13 hours start to finish (including 2 hours of pushing). Overall, it was a really positive experience!

1) First pregnancy. Went in to 38 week apt, and immediately sent to hospital as protein was spilling into urine, and off the chart blood pressure when usually low. After two hours of monitoring, and confirming a lot of protein in my urine, midwife said, "you're having a baby this weekend."

2) cervix closed, low bishop score.

3) Cytotec and cervidil (sp) inserted right at my cervix every 4 hours, and was pretty much confined to the bed

4) On day 3, I said I was tired and done. I had only got to 4cm dialated. I asked for a c-section. They told me to take a walk around the hospital grounds as it was Memorial Day weekend and beautiful out. When I came back, the brought the doctor on call, who happened to be my favorite doctor. She told me se were going to have a come to Jesus moment, and she would not give me a c-section as I was 27, and I had it in me. She asked to break my water, and give me 4 hours. If I didn't have a baby 4 hours later, she would perform the c-section. My dad is a retired doctor, and was in the room so he advised I do it. DH and my mom agreed, so I reluctantly agreed.

Breaks water, and bam! Holy contractions, and I progressed quickly. I got an epidural 30 minutes later, only because they pulled a anesthesiologist walking down the hall I was progressing so fast. They then hooked up a pitocin drip at a 2, then a 4. Exactly 4 hours later, M was born after 45 minutes of pushing. The midwife hadn't wanted the doctor to break my water, but the doctor said she thought she had a good shot. I told them my mom had a 2 hour labor with her first, and they said for any future pregnancies, tell them I have short labors! I think my actual labor was 4hrs. The total induction to birth was 72hrs.

Random tip- take a puzzle! My midwife sent DH to buy some, and it really passed the time by with nurses hanging out in our room! They wouldn't really let me eat once we got close, so whenever food is offered-eat!! Same with showering.

I was induced with both.

1st baby - 41 weeks, 1cm dialated, foley induction, worked perfectly.

2nd - 41 weeks, 1cm again, failed foley because my cervix was still so so high and they could barely get to it. Ended up with a c section but not because of induction but my sons position was very very unusual and he was not coming out ha ha!

Mine was a sort of induction. My water broke on its own, but contractions never got strong/regular enough on their own so I needed pitocin

2. Favorable, I was 3cms and 50% effaced
3. Pitocin only
4. Not well at first. After 14 hours I had only dilated to a 5. My epidural kept failing on the left side, and baby was having lots of "sleepy periods" and some heart decels so they had me on oxygen. The doc came to see me and rolled me over to my right side (they were keeping me on my left to help the epidural medicine go to that side). I cried and cried because I was stalled and in a lot of pain, and scared about baby's safety. And then all of a sudden SHIT GOT REAL. I went from 5cms to delivered in 30 minutes. Baby came out totally healthy but with the cord around his neck twice.

I was induced for my first pregnancy. At 41 weeks, I was 80% effaced but not dialated at all. They gave me pitocin, which started mild contractions for a while. After a few hours, nothing was really happening (I was 4cm), so they broke my water. Then contractions got REAL and I went quickly from 4-7cm and then 7-10cm in like 10 minutes. I pushed for quite a while, but everyone was healthy in the end. It was 12 hours total and a good experience.

ETA: I also had a great nurse who got me a wireless monitor so that I could labor & push in different positions/areas (I spent the most challenging contractions in the shower); so if movement is something you're interested in, ask them for that!

4. It was painful and I tried to go without an epi but gave in at 9cm. It was a fast induction - only 6 hours.

I was scheduled for an induction on my due date both times. The first she came two days early. The second time we went through with the induction . We got to the hospital around 9:30. Had the baby before 11:30! It was fast and furious and I wasn't even fully admitted yet. OB came to check on me, I was about 40% effaced and 3-4cm, can't remember. But had stayed at the same spot for almost two weeks. Anyway, she decided to break my water. They then started pitocin. Barely got a few drips before labor started!

@travellingbee: I did many many laps with DH pushing the IV pole. It more has to do with the monitors and if your hospital has a wireless machine and they can get the monitors to stay in place while you're walking. They have to monitor the baby pretty closely as the Pit increases.

@travellingbee: Yeah, I agree with @T.H.O.U.: . The monitors I had were little metal discs and they were attached to my tummy with fabric straps. If I moved slightly, the discs moved at they lost the baby's heartbeat. Getting up, moving around, squatting, getting on all fours were all out. But you probably wont need them unless you need the drip.

@travellingbee: no, they told me to eat a big breakfast actually since it could be a while! Then I got to eat lunch since we did the Cytotec instead of pitocin.
