If you are only going to get one I would say definitely not the swing. You'll want something portable that you can put baby in while you shower, cook/eat meals, etc.

This is the swing we got...It served as a rocker as well and was easy to take around the house, although since our house is small we hardly ever moved it...we just let him sleep there even if we weren't in the same room. http://www.target.com/p/graco-full-swing-elm/-/A-14538656?reco=Rec|pdp|14538656|ClickCP|item_page.vertical_1&lnk=Rec|pdp|ClickCP|item_page.vertical_1

Thanks for the input guys!
Does anyone have any experience or opinions on more compact/portable swings like these?

We had a swing, and both the kids hated it. Ended up buying a bouncer for DS and just used it again with DD

Loved our swing! Total lifesaver during the early days. Never had an RnP and the bouncer was good, but we didn't use it long (luckily we just got a used one for cheap).

@runnerd: We have a portable swing. We love it! I did not even consider getting a big swing because we just don't have room for it. We have a bouncer too, but she hated it (she'll tolerate it now).

We only had a swing and did fine with both kids!

@runnerd: we're short on space, too, and we registered for two: the Baby Bjorn bouncer, which folds flat (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GZJU4K?tag=blself-20) and the 4moms Rockaroo swing (http://www.4moms.com/rockaroo). It's much smaller than a traditional swing, so I figured we'd go for it.
If worse comes to worst, and LO won't sleep anywhere else, we'll look for a RnP. I'm not sure if we'll need it or not, though, because we only have one bedroom. If LO has reflux and needs to be inclined, we'll see about using the Bjorn first. If that doesn't work, I'll think about the RnP. But we're going to try to get away without it for a while!

@LovelyPlum: I agree the Mamaroo has a much smaller footprint then most A frame swigs (I think the swing one too). We went for the Mamaroo since it has more motions.

@T.H.O.U.: I'm glad to hear that you like it! We went with the smaller one, but they both look cool.

I was originally only going to get one of these items, but we ended up with a RnP, a swing, and a rocker thing (similar to a bouncer, I guess). The RnP was great for overnight sleep for the first few months and the swing worked miracles for naps. Now of course, we to transition out of both! If space is an issue though, I would definitely recommend the RnP.

I had the same concern about baby containers so we got a bouncer & a RnP, no swing. We ended up borrowing a swing & it has been a lifesaver!
It's hard to know what your baby will like - just reading this thread will tell you that! LO has never been a huge fan of her bouncer. It's nice to have a place to set her down & something more portable than the swing but we could live without it, especially now that she can sit in the Bumbo.
We used the RnP essentially as a bassinet for the first 3 months. Like most babies she loved it & slept great in it. It was awesome how portable it was for travel. Still, moving to the crib sucked & I will start our next baby out in the crib at night from the beginning if at all possible.
If you get a swing (which I would say you should) get the Fisher Price Cradle n Swing. It's the bomb. Every baby I've ever heard of that loves their swing has that one. It takes up a lot of space but your kid is about to take over your life anyway
