We use our AC year around, so yes, I'd have it fixed asap unless there was some financial reason for waiting a while. I've heard that prices for AC related stuff are higher in the summer time so I'd like to avoid any of those fees. Sorry you are in this bummer of a situation!

Absolutely. I would at least see if it could be charged. I live much further south than you do though and it will still be hot for another month and a half or so.

I can't live without AC for even a day when it's hot. And since we would have to have it for the next summer I would just bite the bullet and fix/replace it now so we could use it now and get the most value out of it.

If you can be comfortable with out it, then NBD. But I think without AC I'd still feel like we needed to buy all sorts of fans, and then that's a waste of money when the AC is fixed. But then AC is one of the few things I'd go into debt over if I had to.

I had mine replaced around Labor Day one year. It kept leaking Freon and the costs to repair that was out of hand. I decided just to get it over with and replace the unit.

Depends where you live. It will be hot and humid where we are (East Coast) until mid Sept at least, so no way I could go without it.

Everyone is answering based on their own info, but I'll answer based on your situation. Given that you say you don't use your A/C daily anyway, it sounds like it's not super hot where you are and you feel like you can survive the rest of the summer. It seems silly to put money into a old unit when it would be better suited to put that money towards a new one, and it sounds like you need a little time to save up before you can afford the new one. So I would probably tough it out in your situation. You could always buy a window unit for your bedroom and let the girls sleep in there with you if you have a few bad nights.

We would have to replace it, or make due with a few window units, which would be fine for me. My husband, though, would consider this "roughing it" and would be calling a repair man immediately.

I would geta new one the same dayit broke. Its been over here for most of the summer, so its a necessary. If it was not so hot where I lived I would just wait.
