My baby didn't turn and I didn't have any ultrasound after the first so I went into labour thinking everything was normal. I'm glad you know so that you can watch it.

My baby had been breech the whole time and after the emerg c-section my poor LO was froggy legged and flat-headed but otherwise completely normal and healthy.

I really hope she/he turns for you!!

I have heard of so many babies flipping at the last minute but that was not my luck, my li decided she wanted to stick her feet in my pelvis and stay there so I had to have a c-section.

My oldest was breech around 35 weeks too and after talking about it with my OB, he said his chances of turning was like 40% so I left him alone and scheduled a c-section. I did get a couple of follow-up ultrasounds to see ifhe turned but nope. I figured if he's comfy why bother him.

LO was breech at 35 weeks and turned on her own after that.

@travelgirl1: It actually turned out to be the biggest non-event and took all of about 30 seconds once they got going!

Here's the rundown...

I had to be up at the delivery suite of our local hospital at 8am so that Baby could be monitored on the CTG for half an hour. While I was being monitored, my midwife put a drip in and took blood in case I needed a c-section. I should mention that I had also been nil by mouth since midnight for the same reason (turns out that the chances of needing an emergency c-section following an ECV is about 1 in 200, so not high!)

Once I had been monitored for a while and the midwife was happy with Baby's stats, the OB and his registrar came in to chat with me and let me know how the procedure was going to work. The OB and his registrar were really lovely and quite confident about the whole thing (it certainly put me at ease)!

Prior to starting the procedure they did a quick scan to check that Baby was still extended breech and check the position of my placenta (anterior).

The OB then gave me Salbutamol (Ventolin) via my drip to relax my uterus (which made my heart race) and then they tipped me slightly backwards on the bed so that my feet were higher than my head.

Once I was tipped backwards and suitably "relaxed" the registrar externally lifted Baby's bum out my pelvis (thankfully Baby wasn't at all engaged), pushed quite firmly and over Baby went! He then checked for Baby's position using the ultrasound and we were done! Whilst it wasn't what I'd descirbe as painful, it wasn't that comfortable but it was definitely manageable, particularly in comparision to a possible c-section!

Following the ECV, my midwife monitored the Baby's heartbeat for distress for about ten minutes and then we went home (and had McDonald's for breakfast).

I'm obviously pleased with how it went, I figured the worst case scenario was that we would end up with a Baby on the day (we were 38w2d) and as the OB said to me, if it hurts and you say stop, we'll stop, so I figured I really didn't have anything to lose, particularly when the only other option was a scheduled c-section.

Good luck with whatever you decide, but definitely give the ECV some thought
