If your kid has a little cold- runny nose, a little coughing, no fever-- would you take them to a children's museum? I was planning to go tomorrow but c has a little cold- which I'm sure she picked up there last week. If she was in daycare I'm sure I would still send her but I feel like I shouldn't do the museum, right? She is still in the 'everything in her mouth' phase too.

I would still go as long as LO wasn't feeling crabby, etc. Usually if he doesn't have a fever, he needs and wants the activity!

I would still go. I feel like kids have colds all the time during the fall/winter months, so if you keep them home for mild symptoms, you will never get out of the house!

I would not, for two reasons: 1) her resistance to catching other things is lowered if she's already got a cold, so you could be setting yourself up for something worse, and 2) knowingly spreading germs to other little kids (sorry, but that's what a cough is doing...) is not particularly sociable. I know my opinion on this isn't popular, but I practice what I preach.

If she naps well and isn't too crabby we will prob go and I'll just be really careful about things in her mouth and putting them aside (they have special bins for "mouthed toys").

@honeybear: the cough is actually only really at night. But the runny nose is constant and will also spread germs.

@Foodnerd81: Trust me, I totally understand, and I'm sorry you're in this position. But I still wouldn't go to a children's museum with definite cold symptoms because of the likelihood of catching something else or spreading it to another baby/child. Maybe there's something outdoors you could do today instead? (Weather-permitting, of course!)

The cough is probably from the drainage at night, is my guess. I would try to keep things out of her mouth and wipe her down often so she's not dripping all over stuff, haha.

@honeybear: I've been feeling along the same lines of what you are saying. Good point about her immunity already being worn down, too.
