My two-and-a-half year old daughter hasn't been able to open the door to her room, but last night she did?! I am not sure if it was a fluke or not, but I went in there to get her back down and fell asleep on the floor (so she didn't try again). So I guess we will find out later if she can consistently open the door to her room!
If your kid is out of the crib, can they open the door to their room?

I don't have LOs of my own yet, but my mom told me that I was transitioned fairly early to a floorbed, but they put one of those childproof plastic knobs over the handle of my door so I was trapped in there if I woke up early

She can't open the door yet, but we still have to stay in her room with her because she holds onto the doorknob, rattles it to try to open it, and screams, "Open it, Open it."

Yes - but he doesn't. He doesn't leave his bed without permission. I know, we got super lucky, and the baby will probably be a terror as payback.

Yup! Our doors are easy. My one year old can open them.

Yes...they're high and round though so it stinks! She will open her door and then her brothers to bother him at night.

@mrbee: Still in a crib, but all the doorknobs in our house are round and DS (2 yrs 3 mos) cannot open them. I fear the day when he can.

I've been thinking about what to do when DS is out of the crib and recently read in a book to turn around the handle so the lock is on the outside, that way you can make sure they stay safe in their room. Kind of freaks me out, but I can totally see DS roaming around the house and attempting to do things he shouldn't!

@mrbee: The only time he left his room at night was shortly after he transitioned to a toddler bed. He fell out of bed and was so alarmed and disoriented that he raced into the hall to look for us.
The flip side of this is that instead of just getting up and playing quietly once he's up in the morning or after his nap is that he will moan, kick the wall, or scream if we don't come "let him up" fast enough.

Yes - she usually has to get out at least once a night and stall going to bed before she's out for the night.

Still in crib, but DD has been opening doors (lever handle) since 15m. We use latchy catchy's on all bedrooms, so even easier on them! The scary one she can do is the mudroom door!
