Are they 100% dependent on it to sleep? I am thinking I might need to get one for my three month old so that I am not always anxious about my two year old waking him up. So far, everything has gone good during nap time but there rooms are next door and I don't let her play in there during nap time. My fear is that this is one more thing I am going to have to pack up when we go places for the day. And I am also worried about ten years from now when he goes to a sleep over, will he need it then too? I am thinking if he only uses it during nap time and not a night, then maybe he won't be dependent.

She uses it for nighttime but not naps. She will sleep without it but she also wakes up when we talk in bed or our alarms go off.

We use ours for nighttime and only occasionally for naps. I have forgotten to turn it on sometimes and he will sleep just fine but if I'm a little too noisy he tends to wake a little easier without it on.

She can sleep without it, it just makes it easier for her to fall asleep initially with it on. Its one of her bedtime cues. She doesn't use it for naps. I have a gentle giraffe travel sound machine that we take with us on overnight trips.

We were use it anytime she sleeps in her crib, naps and night. I just took one to day care as well, and it seems to help her take longer naps there. She still has no issue falling asleep in her car seat or stroller. Usually if we are at someone's house, I just wear her in the Ktan for a nap. If we are at my parents, since they have a crib, I will probably download a white noise app so she can use.

We don't use a sound machine, but we've been putting a fan in his room at night. It definitely helps him sleep longer & I'm thinking of getting a sound machine for when the weather is cooler. It might be something you have to bring with you for trips, but I don't think he'll still need it in 10 years

The white noise machine helps LO sleep better/longer but he can still sleep without it. When we are out and about we sometimes use a white noise app on DH's phone.

We use a white noise app on an old iPhone for naps and nighttime. Sometimes we forget to turn it on or the phone isn't plugged in properly and it turns off in the middle of the night with no repercussions. He also doesn't use white noise at daycare and falls asleep without issue.

LO is not dependent on it, but it is a sleep cue and part of our bedtime/nap routine.

He can sleep without it but our apartment is so small that having the white noise drown out everything so he can sleep is a lifesaver. We wouldn't be able to get anything find for fear of waking him otherwise

we use it so we can make noise in the house. she also sleeps next to a long shared driveway, so it drowns out that noise. i don't think she's dependent, but it definitely helps!
i don't worry about it long term since i know plenty of adults that like white noise for sleep!
