At my doctors office you see your regular gyn for the first few visits (if you want) and then they want you to see the other drs in the practice throughout the pregnancy. At the end you can go back to your main dr if you like. I thought it worked well and I ended up preferring another dr. She did my csection and i'll be seeing her from now on.

I worked with a perinatal dept during my pregnancy and there were 3 doctors. My appointments were with whomever was seeing patients when I needed an appointment. It was a different doctor altogether who delivered LO.

At my birth center there are three midwives. You see all three throughout your pregnancy on a revolving schedule so you get to know all of them well, and then whoever is on call at your birth is who delivers.

I have a favorite midwife and told her I wished I could guarantee she would be at my birth, and she gave me her personal number and said to call her when I go into labor and even if she's not on call, if she can she'll come in.

I saw my OB for all prenatal visits with LO but I switched to the practice around 20 weeks....I think I would have seen his PA or nurse practioner for some of the earlier appointments. My OB wasn't on call when I was induced and I saw 3 different Drs during my 36 hour labor.

I have seen two OBs (my regular one was out of town for one visit), one nurse and a PA for my current pregnancy. My C-section will be performed by my Dr...if I stick to schedule!

My midwife practice has 7 or 8 midwives and whoever is on call when you go into labor will deliver you. You can have all your appointments with one midwife or rotate through them. I decided to rotate through since I would rather have met them all prior to going into labor.

My OB's practice has 5-6 doctors. I saw my OB 95% of the time (except one same day appointment when my doctor was in surgery and a routine appointment when my doctor was on vacation).

My doctor delivers most of her patient's babies, unless she's out of town, or otherwise unable to deliver. At their practice, when you go into labor, you call the doctors office. The doctor on call meets you at the hospital and evaluates you and keeps your primary doctor in the loop about how you are progressing. When you're getting close, the doctor on call pages your regular OB and they come to deliver the baby.

When I went into labor, my OB was already at the hospital (she just delivered another baby). She kept tabs on my during my labor and came to my room several times. When it was close to time to push, she came back to the hospital to deliver LO!!

My practice has 3 midwives, 2 or 3 nurse practitioners and 8-10 doctors maybe?

They rotate your prenatal appointments around the entire practice so you get to know as many of them as possible. You get whoever's on call. The day I delivered I didn't know one of the doctors and the midwife who ultimately delivered L.

It didn't really matter to me anyway bc at the hospital I delivered at, you spend the most time with your l&d nurse.

Also, at my practice, I think that one of the more personable docs is kind of a doofus, medically... And one of the "colder" docs saved my friend's life - and her daughter's- when her uterus ruptured.

I just see my doctor. I'm positive that he will come in even if he isn't on call. We've been family friends for a long time.

My OB's office is comprised of 5 different women OB's. I would always see my OB for visits, unless she was called out to labor or one time she was on vacation. She had told me from the get go, she would deliver my baby any day except for Wednesdays because that was the only day she didn't have a babysitter. In that case, the OB from her office on-call would deliver. Of course, I delivered on a Wed. But my OB was the one who came and checked on me the next morning.

In my office they wanted you to meet with everyone at least once, then you could schedule with whoever you wanted after that. The goal was to make sure you'd met everyone since whoever was on call would deliver. The practice had 4 females and 2 males... in the beginning I wasn't very happy about seeing the males, but they ended up being my favorites. I lucked out and one of them delivered J.

I had never been to my office until I got pregnant - my regular doctor was a GYN only and 30 minutes away (close to work/where I used to live) so I needed an OB close to home/the hospital where i planned to deliver. So i didnt have a eegular practitioner there who i had been seeing. They have 2 OBs and 2 midwives and I rotated among each of them so that when d-day came, I'd be familiar and comfortable with whoever was on call. I had my favorites but in the end was cool with whoever (but totally ended up getting my favorite midwife so it worked out!).

@birdofafeather: Ditto! We are sure the nurses could have just delivered our baby! The on-call doc was in there with me for maybe 5-10 min. pushing max. Spent more time on the stitches.

In mine you see one doctor for all your appointments, but you get whoever has hospital hours when you're in labor. My doctor did my delivery but a different doctor did my aftercare.

My practice had 3 doctors and 2 midwives. For prenatal care, they made me see all of them but I mainly stuck with one midwife I really liked. But they also share a hospital with another office (same practice, different area) so I ended up with a midwife and doctor from the other office. It didn't really matter because the midwife I ended up with was seriously awesome. She somehow made cervix checks not uncomfortable and really went above and beyond. I kinda want to switch offices the next time bc she was so great.
