    @spaniellove: Why so many??

So it's CD1! I totally thought it wouldn't be until this weekend. But this means vag cam and CD3 b/w on Sunday, and hopefully an rx for Metformin that day as well.

Just found out my cousin is pregnant... again. I almost hung up on my mom. Ugh. Another reminder of how easy it is for some people.

@Rachel: I'm sorry. I know how that feels. My sister in law is pregnant and I have this worry that my stepsister will tell us she's pregnant with her second before I am pregnant.

@MrsCB: We did the first 2 with the male infertility specialist, and now the RE/fertility clinic wants one done in their own lab. Honestly I think their explanation was pretty lame.

@Rachel: Ugh, so sorry to hear! I have a secret fear that my SIL who just gave birth will be pregnant again before me.

@Rachel. I am so sorry. I just got one too tonight. One of my best friends is pregnant even though, at least as of June, she still hadn't convinced her husband to pull the goalie. Life is unfair. I want to wallow but have a publication deadline tomorrow. So will just distract myself with work.

@Rachel: ugh, there will always be constant reminders of how easy it can be for some. Sorry you had to receive that news. Hugs!

Looks like we all have our own little stories and fears...I sometimes think that my sister and I aren't talking as much right now because she is pregnant and doesn't want to tell me until 3 months in. It would bum me out so much if she could conceive her 2nd before I can conceive our first.

@raintreebee: ugh! today must be the day for bummer news. Hugs to you!

@Sweetooth. Thanks for the hugs! Does your sister know about your situation?

  10. sweetooth

    nectarine / 2705 posts

@raintreebee: She knows, and she has said that she's there for me. But she hasn't really checked in since we talked about it back in August. She actually got pregnant back in the Spring but miscarried. I just feel like we're both going through our own thing, but separately. I wish it could be different.

@sweetooth. That is tough. Very likely she wishes that too. My sister in law recently got pregnant after undergoing fertility treatments. I know she found it hard to tell me. For me, it was much easier than other announcements since (a) she wasn't one of those people who got pregnant after 15 minutes of trying so knows how lucky she is; and (b) she knows my circumstances. She also still checks in with me to see how I am doing, which is very appreciated, rather than just pretending my infertility is not there. Hopefully you guys can navigate a relationship that works as your circumstances evolve.

@sweetooth: We did a natural cycle. I think we may try one more natural cycle before moving on to medicated. I'm going to call my gynecologist today and ask what she thinks.

So I had CD3 b/w and a vaginal ultrasound yesterday. The ultrasound was pretty uncomfortable. DH was there holding my hand though, and that helped.

Later in the day the nurse called with the majority of the results and said everything looked great/normal :-D. FSH, LH, AMH, Estradiol and antral follicle count all looked good. The nurse also said that the ultrasound tech didn't make any notes about cysts on my ovaries, which was kind of weird since the doctor thinks it's likely cysts that are stopping ovulation. I guess it doesn't matter too much, since the treatment (clomid) will be the same whatever the cause.

I had my first appointment today, and I'm both disappointed and encouraged. I know that seems weird...

The disappointed part is in my doctor. I called for an appointment last Monday (CD1) and they said that AF had to be over before I come in. Then today, there was no exam, and she said that they want to do blood testing on CD3. A whole month wasted, since there was no reason I couldn't have done it last week I tried to ask about my suspected circulation issues, but she seems to think its high estrogen or an LP defect (uhh, its 14+ days long...)

I did ask her about acupuncture, and she seemed to think it was a good idea (or at least it couldn't hurt). I found someone in the area that specializes in ttc/pregnancy, has great reviews, and says treatment lasts 3 months generally. Waiting for her call back, but it sounded like she can get me in this week, before O, yay.

So I'm going to talk to DH tonight to figure out our plan, but since insurance doesn't cover anything for a few more months anyway, I don't think we should do anything further than blood tests/SA until then and try acupuncture and/or homeopathy (unless the tests show something obvious).

@Leialou: I didn't know IUI could happen without medication. I guess I need to study up! I hope your next cycle is the one for you.

@MrsCB: Glad you got some answers! When do you start Clomid?

@Mrs.Someone: Sorry to hear that you were disappointed by your doctor. That seems a little off that they would tell you that you needed to come in after your period. Usually when you're in the critical window they make every effort to get you in for the time-sensitive tests. I'd be bummed too if I wasted a whole month. Good luck with the next steps that you and your husband decide on.

@Mrs.Someone: Ugh sorry you were frustrated with your doctor - I'm feeling the same way about mine right about now.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------

I had my follow up appointment this morning, and I printed out all my charts and showed them to her, and she didn't even know what she was looking at. She said "when your temperature goes up that means you ovulated, right?" Umm.... you're the doctor!

I also asked her if she thought I had a LP defect because my LP was only 9-10 days long, and she said "well how long are your cycles? 29 days? I don't think that's it". LADY! We just went over how I ovulate on CD 18-20!! Ugh. I hate to cite Dr. Google (or Dr. HB?) but come on now.

She's having me do CD 3 and CD 21 blood work, but I have a couple questions. First of all, she said CD 21, but it's only for progesterone, so shouldn't it be 7dpo? Also, can I get the prog test first, and then get the CD 3 done after? I'm 4dpo right now, so that would be quicker, but I don't know if they need it to all be from the same cycle. Any advice?

  31. Grace

    cantaloupe / 6730 posts

@Rachel: Heehee, you could just go in on 7 dpo and say it was CD21. For your Day 3 bloodwork, is it just FSH or is it the other ones too? If it's the whole schebang (LH, estrogen, thyroid, testoterone, prolactin), I'd do it all on the same cycle. You never know how one hormone influences the others. If it's just FSH, then I wouldn't worry about it because I think they are just looking for evidence of low ovarian reserve.

Having said all that, I'm not a doctor, so what do I know?

  32. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@Rachel: It sounds like you're seeing an OB/GYN instead of RE? Either way it sounds like that person is not very knowledgeable about fertility. I would change doctors if I were you.

  33. Shutterbug

    grapefruit / 4703 posts

@MrsCB: It is an OB/GYN. Right now I'm just seeing her because of insurance - once my insurance will cover it, I'll switch to an RE. Unfortunately, that's not until April.

@Grace: It's the whole shebang, so I guess I'll just do it all next cycle. Still glad to at least be doing something

  34. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@rachel - sorry to hear you're in the same boat! My doctor was pretty uninterested in anything charting too. I most likely can't get insurance coverage until April either As for your short LP, maybe try a naturopath? I have a friend that was in the same situation, and they gave her a Vitamin B shot, then she got pregnant pretty quickly. You could try vitamins on your own too.

So I've decided to explore acpuncture and I found a center that specializes in fertility and takes insurance double win! Took me some time to find one that could do both. Gah. Insurance companies are so picky. They won't take any claims for acupuncturists that are not contracted with the provider so it took me a couple of days to find one I was looking for.

I have an appointment for next week. Has anybody done acupuncture? (I know there is a post about this but I'm curious if anybody on this thread has done it). Baby dust to all

  37. ShootingStar

    coconut / 8472 posts

@Rachel: Aww, that sucks. At least your OBGYN will do something for you - mine immediately refused to do anything other than prescribe provera to induce a period. So just to get Clomid I've had to go through 2 rounds of bloodwork, 2 office visits, and a SA for DH. And I still won't get put on anything until next month.

@Kentuckygirl. Thank you! I am 10 DPO and got a BFN this morning. I know, I know. Too early, but I read this annoying study that 65% of pregnant women get positives by 10 DPO. UGH

@MK0180: I did acupuncture for awhile. It was relaxing, but I found it too expensive and too far away from my work. Do they do herbs as well?

@Rachel: I would explain to her that you may not ovulate on Day 14 so the bloodwork should be done 7 DPO. Unfortunately, many OB/GYNs make this mistake. Remember you have to be your own advocate in healthcare!
