@Shutterbug: Don't be terrified of your HSG - I'll fully admit that it is NOT FUN, but it's honestly only uncomfortable during the actual procedure, which is super short... like 2-3 minutes tops. And if all is good and clear, you'll never ever have to do it again!
coconut / 8472 posts
@marionberry: IDK about the CB digis, they picked up my chemical pregnancy and my hcg was only at about 5. We are kinda hoping for twins though!
@Shutterbug: The most uncomfortable thing about my HSG procedure was the speculum. It felt huge. But the catheter and dye didn't hurt at all. I was crampy for a little while after, though.
@alie: I did my own trigger, it doesn't hurt at all. I did my gonal-f shots too. I was more afraid that DH would jab me too hard!
honeydew / 7916 posts
@Shutterbug: That sounds very promising! There are a lot of scary stories out there about the HSG but chances are it will go smoothly for you and you'll forget all about it quickly. And the low co-pay makes me jealous!
@alie: With the Clomid I think the issue is that it thins your lining. Has your lining been checked recently? That might help you decide whether to take a month off or go straight into IUI. Did your RE have a reason for bringing up IVF? (Sorry if I'm forgetting something here) Unless there was a very specific reason, I think it's a good idea to try IUI...since you're OOP I guess you have to figure out where the balance is between feeling like you've tried enough times and not using up money that you need to pursue other options.

@Shutterbug: I'm so glad your appointment went well. We lucked out and went on cd1 so we got to do everything in one cycle (like it appears you'll get to) and that was so awesome! You don't have to wait that way. And you're SO lucky it was just a copay. I want your insurance!! Can't wait to hear what they say after your results. Keep us informed.
pomelo / 5041 posts
@MrsCB: I hoped for twins too but my betas were way too low to be more than one baby. I hope yours turns out really high.
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@alie: I switched from Clomid to Femara since it doesn't affect uterus lining. We got our BFP that cycle. I also had way less side effects!
kiwi / 526 posts
@spaniellove: I think her reason for bringing up IVF at all is just so we know all our options, and also because it has a much higher chance of being successful in one go (50-60%, vs 13-16% chance with IUI). That percentage is obviously much more comforting but it comes at a price tag that we'll need to save up for for many, many months, and in the meantime I'd rather at least try IUI before putting ourselves through anything more.
@ladybee: That's encouraging, thank you! I haven't had tooo many Clomid side effects (mostly just major irritability and the occasional headache) but even still, less side effects certainly sounds better

@justdarling: Congrats on the new job! Everything will work out
@spaniellove: That's cool about the forum you found. You're doing what you can, and that's all you can do. It's so hard sometimes not to just be the "good patient". I know I play that role sometimes. It only adds to the stress of all of this that we have to be so proactive, instead of just being cared for.
@BB@TheSwissWifeStyle: Welcome! Glad to hear the testing is going well for you. Good luck with your upcoming HSG!
nectarine / 2705 posts
@alie: I know taking a month off doesn't sound appealing, but maybe letting your body rest in between the Clomid cycle and the new med cycle would be good? You know your body best, so if you feel like you can keep going, then go for it! I hope that with some monitoring you can learn more about what's going on inside during the medicated cycles. And as for the Ovidrel shot, it took me some courage to do it the first time, but once you do, you'll be able to handle it. I would be more afraid to have my husband do it because then I couldn't control the angle of the needle or the speed of the injection.

@Shutterbug: Happy to hear that your RE appointment went well! And yay for great insurance
Good luck with all of the upcoming testing, I hope you get some answers and are super close to your BFP!

My tww is coming to an end and my mid-cycle spotting is all but gone! Hooray! Started Monday with a brown-ish/pink-ish smudge and brownish discharge has been coming since Tuesday and stopped last night. Just a bit of tinted cervical fluid this morning. I tested yesterday and today with BFN on those cheapo test strips. Is it still too early the test if what I was experiencing was implantation bleeding? Any idea when to start?

@alie: Good luck! I haven't reached the point where I am working with my RE on medications yet, but all of this information is good to know since that might be the next step for me. Thanks for sharing!

Good Thursday morning! Welcome @BB@TheSwissWifeStyle: , I hope your stay here is short!
I know I've not been around quite as much since we are having to take a TTC break due to cysts. However, I am finding it harder to remember where everyone is in your treatment and I am finding it challenging to locate our old updates with so many pages on this thread.
Could I suggest that we do an updated list here on this thread. Then, after we have an updated list, we could post it on the first page of a new thread (Infertility Support Thread Part 2).
It would be really helpful for me to be able to refer back to page 1 (of that new thread) for a quick reference on everyone's current treatment. I know that over time that will become outdated, but could be helpful for a while, at least. What do you think?
apricot / 452 posts
@Shutterbug: I wouldn't be too terrified of the HSG. I didn't think it was all that bad. A little worse than a pap.
@alie: I had DH do the trigger. I couldn't do it myself. Good Luck figuring out what comes next.
honeydew / 7916 posts
@kentuckygirl: I think we originally started this thread in the fall, so maybe a spring thread?
I found it hard to keep up the status list because it meant scrolling back and trying to read through everyone's posts an deciphering what their treatment was...so what if I repost February's list and everyone responds by the weekend with where they are? And if there's anything else we want on there, we can add that in - like protocols we've tried or numbers (to make it easier to find someone else in a similar situation).

@spaniellove: good idea!
ETA: too bad we don't have signatures...
pomelo / 5041 posts
@spaniellove: What we do on our September Mamas Thread is that everytime someone has an update they're in charge of copying the last update sheet, editing it, and reposting. It makes it so that it gets updated more often and there's not one person having to keep up with everyone. Just an idea. But I agree, I always forget what everyone's going through and what plan they're on. If it included issue, treatment, and appointments or something that would help.

hey ladies...
sorry to jump in, but i was wondering if you could help guide me...
DH and i started trying June 2012, first cycle resulted in a BFP to wish i sadly miscarried...and we started trying my first cycle back after miscarriage in September.
So we have been trying for 9 months, and have been using OPK's since Septembe,r now and nothing...this last cycle i never really got a blarring positive to confirm O, like i have everyother cycle before...Also cycle before this one Dr. agreed to do a progesterone test at 7DPO which came back at 10.1, which she told me was in the range they wanted to confirm i had ovulated. she never told me what the range was.
Now to my question(s), i have Kaiser, and my Dr. wants me to wait until we have been trying for a year to do any further testing, was this the case for you? what kind of testing did you do? we have also considered "NTNP" for next month as i want to try and avoid a X-Mas baby, but the reality is that i feel it will be a month wasted, if we do decide to skip "real" trying should i still track using OPK's???
Also, were you able to convice your Dr. to test earlier???
sorry for the book...

@MrsCastro: Hi, I am over 35, so I was able to get testing and some treatment covered since I had been TTC for over 6 months (due to my age I met the definition for infertility). If your insurance won't cover treatment until you have been TTC for 1 year, your only other option may be to pay out of pocket. Sometimes if you have irregular cycles, cysts, etc. the Dr. can get further testing done due to that medical condition (rather than wait the full year to meet the definition for infertility). Good luck! I would encourage you to still do OPK's just to see if you do get an LH surge, even if you are not trying. If find that knowledge is powerful and if you don't see a surge, that may give your Dr. more reason to do additional tests.

@MrsCastro: my doctor said I had to wait 1 year for fertility treatments to be covered by insurance, but my RE said that consultation, testing and diagnosis were covered before the year mark. So I had my first round of blood tests at about the 7 month mark, and now I'm getting more in depth testing (U/S, HSG, SA for DH) at the 11 month mark, so I'll be ready to go at the 1 year mark.

@MrsCastro: I went to an RE after only trying for a couple months, but I was having really irregular periods and no ovulation. But honestly, the RE didn't seem to care. We wanted to get pregnant, and she was there to let us know what could be done. Not everything was covered by insurance, but most of it came under "diagnostic service" so my insurance didn't care.
I say if you want more help, then go get it! Unfortunately a lot of ob/gyns don't know what they're doing in terms of getting people pregnant and you have to be your own best advocate.
grapefruit / 4079 posts
@MrsCastro: You sound just like me. We got our BFP right off bc, and mc'd. For me, my cycles got longer and wonkier every month so I saw my OBGYN. He diagnosed me with PCOS and told me I could take clomid for 3 months or seek the help of a specialist. I decided to take the RX from him AND go see the RE. My RE was AMAZING! He was confident we could get pregnant, changed my RX, and BAM, first cycle on his meds we got another BFP! My insurance didn't care that we only waited 10 months in total because I was diagnosed with a condition.

@MrsCastro: I definitely wouldn't wait a year if I were you, especially if you're taking OPKs and confirming that your timing well with O. I'd suggest going to either an RE or a naturopath that is more specialized in fertility, since both approach this differently than a normal doc. I had my OBGYN take the CD3 bloodwork at 7 months, but switched to a naturopath after my m/c (9mo) and she ran more tests based on the symptoms I was telling her. Turns out shes the one who found the answer, and I'm in my 2nd cycle trying after treatment.

Hi all haven't posted on here in a while. I had my day 3 hormone tests done and was supposed to have my progesterone levels checked after getting a positive OPK. Long story short never got a positive OPK so had to put off testing. My other tests came back normal but since I have always had difficulties getting positives my doctor wants me to try Clomid. I am hoping to start this month if my doctor gets back to me in time. If not this month next. Good luck to all of those in the two week wait, and congrats @MrsCB

Hi Ladies. After three months off from fertility meds, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I am officially back and will be checking the boards regularly. I started stimming for IVF #1 last night and already feel sick from the meds. Its going to be a long and intense journey! The good news is that my baseline ultrasound showed 18 follicles ready to go. Oh, I also had a crying fit last night because I got my b/w back and was convinced I also had PCOS (in addition to my diagnosed endometriosis). So I called my doctor in panic mode who then pointed out that I had reversed the lh:fsh ratio. Yes, I am high maintenance at the moment.
Baby dust to all!
P.S. We decided to buy the lake house that we are currently renting. And since I am stimming, DH is taking care of all the details. Here's to hoping that we will need to babyproof it!
