@spaniellove: your post about feeling blah also resonated with me this week. i feel like the meds and the stress of it all have taken a toll on me physically and was looking in the mirror the other night barely able to recognize myself. probably doesn't help that my sleeping has completely fallen apart in anticipation of ivf. so i took a similar approach you did and put some effort into it. straightened my hair, makeup, etc. here's to hoping it's all in our heads.

@raintreebee: Congrats on the lake house! And yay for awesome husbands I hope that IVF #1 is your only one and you're baby proofing that house before you know it.

And as for high maintenance, I think this insanity makes us all turn into high maintenance crazies just trying to stay on top of our medical stats! Lots of luck to you

@raintreebee: 18 follies, that's fabulous! Hopefully your reaction to the meds will tone down and you won't feel this way the whole time you're stimming. Don't worry at all about how you look during IVF and just make yourself comfortable...actually make sure your DH takes good care of you! The lake house sounds like a wonderful thing to have him working on!

After picking up my records today (all $62 worth), I read through them and was glad I went through all the trouble. Strangely there was nothing about my actual treatments or follicles, but I did get to see all my other numbers which was helpful.

And I got to see what our actual diagnosis was - secondary infertility due to DOR and male factor. Every part of that stung. Now I know why every doctor in the practice asked us about our child at home the first time they saw us...they assumed the secondary part meant we'd already had a baby.

And in the ART summary, they confirmed what I suspected. No one wanted to discuss it with me, but I guessed from seeing the photo of the embryos that they weren't going to make it to day 5.

  12. derevival

    apricot / 363 posts

@spaniellove: I'm sorry, but what is 'secondary infertility due to DOR?'

It really does reinforce that you made a great move to leave them. Everything should be open and discussed. I probably don't ask enough questions, but it is hard to know where to even start. Do you feel better looking at everything? It cost money to get your paperwork??

  13. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@derevival: secondary = have been pregnant before, although often secondary infertility is for folks who are TTC a second or third child. And DOR = diminished ovarian reserve, generally high FSH (though mine is not so high), low AMH, low antral follicle count.

  14. Mrs.Someone

    pomelo / 5228 posts

@spaniellove: That must be infuriating that they didn't discuss everything with you! It almost seems as if they didn't really want to help you Glad you're making the switch!

As for me, apparently I can still be excited for others' babies! My SIL is being induced tomorrow with our first nephew Unfortunately, they live very far away and we're not sure when we'll be able to go visit...

  15. marionberry

    pomelo / 5041 posts

@spaniellove: That is good that you had to get copies of your records...it gave you the information you'd longed for. I can't believe they never really said those things to you, but I also know how doctors work (working in a hospital) so it's also what I would expect. I really hope you do better with your new RE. And the secondary stuff doesn't really make sense to me given the MC before. I mean that one obviously had an issue too.

@mrscastro: Just tell her EVERYTHING (no detail is too small) and if you have a question, certainly ask it! Ask her the process she'd recommend and what issues she thinks you may be having. Ask her about next steps procedurally too.

@bluestriped bee: There ya go! question for you...what was your DH's Morph? My DH's morph was 4% normal. My original ObGyn said this was "low." But my new doc (fertility specialist) said this is nothing to worry about. So I dunno what to think!

I love the summaries! So much easier to root for you ladies when it's all in the same spot like that. It's very exciting to see all the progress each of you are making to figure out what's going on. I have high hopes for 2013!!!!!

  24. raintreebee

    pear / 1531 posts

@spaniellove: is there any way to get your hands on the details of your protocol and responses? It seems like your new re will really want to see this to determine what went wrong and where to go . If they dont have that info, which would be negligent, maybe you can reconstruct as much as possible? Glad you are switching.

  25. raintreebee

    pear / 1531 posts

@BB@TheSwissWifeStyle: the new WHO criteria is 4% strict morph. Many doctors and labs aren't aware of the change. It used to be much higher before last year. My husband's varies from 5% to 10%, but my RE is convinced that has nothing to do with our problems. It's all on me, in other words. :).

  26. TheSwissWifeStyle

    nectarine / 2600 posts

@raintreebee: so 4 percent is bad? He's going back this week to do another S.A., and he's been taking extra amino acids and stuff, so hopefully we'll get a better number...

  27. raintreebee

    pear / 1531 posts

@BB@TheSwissWifeStyle: I think he's right at the cutoff line and that's why your doctor isn't too concerned. Your OB was probably thinking of the older criteria of 14%. Many doctors think morph doesn't matters much as long as the other #s are good. I think another SA would be a good idea since there is a lot of variability. But from what I've read and heard, 4-5% might slow you down but it doesn't mean you'll never have a baby. I would trust your RE on this one. S/he is more up to date than your OB.

  28. BSB

hostess / wonderful apple seed / 16729 posts

@BB@TheSwissWifeStyle: Thank you for adding me.
My DH had a 4% morphology and they said that was abnormal.

Although, since we've done IUI where they process his sperm before the IUI, his numbers are usually great. I heard IUIs really helps with the male factor.

  29. TheSwissWifeStyle

    nectarine / 2600 posts

Thanks ladies. Guess we'll see what the next SA brings, and also my CM tests from yesterday. Will be like a month til we get the results! Ugh.

  30. spaniellove

    honeydew / 7916 posts

@raintreebee: Fortunately I kept detailed notes on my treatment cycles in a spreadsheet and DH went to every appointment and wrote down everything. So I have almost all the follicle sizes, lining measurements, and dosage notes. My guess about why that's missing is they don't want to give the info to another clinic…but I heard the other doctor doesn't care that much about records because he considers it all approaches that didn't work.

How are you feeling? When do you go in for your next monitoring appt?

  31. raintreebee

    pear / 1531 posts

@spaniellove: Good job on recordkeeping! Thanks for checking up on me. I feel a ton better than the day after my first meds. Staying very hydrated and relaxed. So far, I have taken three nights of meds. I went in yesterday and everything looked good (still 18 follies) but still too early to see much development. I go in again tomorrow. Hoping to see the eggs waking up.

@Mrs. Win: What a greeaat way to spend your TWW! That timing worked out nicely, huh?

@kentuckygirl: Thank you for that reminder! Our TTC journey radically changed when DH learned about all things fertility related that I knew and shared in the excitement and disappointment with me, and I began to feel safe to express my feelings.

As for me, I'm updating my status: After 16 months TTC and an unsucessful Clomid + timed intercourse cycle, I am now officially on the IUI boat! I just had my first one this morning, and I'll be going in for my beta on April 2. They wanted it to be April 3, but that's the first day back from my students' spring break, and waiting for that phone call at work is the worst!!

I had a good appointment today. 17 follicles, 8 of which were over 11 mm. Doc thinks we are headed for the "sweet spot" of retrieving 10-15 (most likely 10-12).
