My husband and I are ready to start trying for a baby. But our insurance situation is concerning.

SO has great comprehensive coverage through his work. We've looked into adding me to his plan, but to do that will cost us around $600 a month.

Through my job, I have a private insurance plan that I set up myself, and my boss gives me an extra stipend on my paycheck to cover it. I'm the only one in the office that receives this out of my boss and his 3 employees. One of the other employees already had coverage through his mom's plan, and the final employee wasn't offered health insurance right away when she came on board a few months ago. I don't know what her official insurance situation is now at this point.

My private insurance plan does not include maternity coverage of any kind. And unfortunately, in Texas, there is not option for maternity coverage on private plans. At all. Anywhere. It sucks.

I work for a small company and my boss's wife just had a baby. He had mentioned once about possibly considering putting us all on a group insurance plan (my boss + his wife + his three employees) but nothing ever happened with it at this point. When he was orginally considering it, I asked to make sure it included maternity coverage if possible.

I'm thinking about asking him about the possibility of moving us to a group plan now. But I'm a little weirded out about having to discuss my sex life/baby plans/personal life with my boss in this manner. And a group plan will be a lot more expensive for him, and I'm not sure if he wants to offer insurance to everyone in the office like that.

Does anyone have any advice or suggestions?
