I love post apocalyptic shows so this is right on for the kind of shows I like. So good!

@Synchronicity: Oooo it's tonight? YES! We are recording it so I didn't know what night it came on!

@wrkbrk: I think so! We have watched the other two on demand but I'm pretty sure I saw it on the schedule for tonight!

Bump! What did everyone think of the most recent episode (episode 9)? I thought it was awesome.
Also, if anyone is looking for a Westworld podcast to listen to the Decoding Westworld podcast is great. They were correct about several things that were revealed in the most recent episode.

@NCSUchick27: thanks for the podcast tip. DH and I were talking about several things that happened in last night's episode (won't say in case of spoilers) - but suffice to say, we both had the same questions and thoughts which would be awesome to confirm/learn more about!
I *love* this show and can't believe I'm not hearing more about it everywhere.

I'm obsessed with this show! I lurk on the Westworld subreddit so I've read a lot of theories that ended up being true so far. I'm so excited about next week's extra long episode. I don't want it to be over, though!

DH is watching it, I've been half paying attention while I work on the girls christmas stockings...turns out its not the kind of show you can half pay attention to! Might have to start over...

Is anyone else totally confused??
I read an article last week that speculated that William and the Man in Black are really the same person! I need a decoder ring!
Was all that stuff with Dolores and William just a distant memory?? Clearly all those times that we thought Dolores was talking to Bernard, it was really a memory of Dolores talking to Arnold! Ahhh!!! So confused!!!

I've wanted to watch this show, but just reading @Adira's comment scares me - I get easily confused with shows because I generally am only half paying attention! Lol

Episode 9 was so good! I think there are 3 different timelines being played out and that seems pretty well confirmed now. Can't wait for the last episode.
@twodoghouse: love that subreddit!
@Adira: if you want to go down the rabbit hole of theories, look at the Westworld sub on Reddit!

@ValentineMommy: Don't be scared! This show is awesome! But... you do need to pay attention...

@Synchronicity: Three different timelines! What are they?? I get if young William is one timeline and the Man in Black is another, but what's the third?
grapefruit / 4089 posts
Spoilers if you haven't watched!! @Adira: Delores looking back at the park 35ish years ago in flashbacks, and seeing the hosts as they were before they became very human-like (the dancing scene in the town with the church, where the massacre occurred). Delores interacts with Arnold in this timeline as well. That's the first. Then there is Delores and William, about 30 years ago, with William possibly being the Man in Black. And then the present where Delores seems to be on her own (going through "the maze"?) and the Man in Black is with Teddy.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Synchronicity: Ahh, okay. I guess I didn't view those things (Dolores seeing the hosts learning to dance and her interactions with Arnold) as a timeline on their own because it seemed clear (at least now) that they were all just part of her memory. Whereas the stuff with William and the MiB aren't as obvious.
grapefruit / 4089 posts
@Adira: you're right, it is clear now, but in earlier episodes we saw Delores interacting with Bernard and assumed that was in the present, and now we know that at least some of that was likely a different time altogether.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@Synchronicity: Yep, you're definitely right. I feel like I should've realized it sooner, because we'd see her interactions with Bernard (who now I assume it was really Arnold) and then her back in the park and I'd always be like "When did this happen? How'd she go chat with Bernard only to get back to the park with no one noticing??"

@Synchronicity: @Adira: SPOILERS!!
I feel like they are really pushing that William is the man in black - - but (unless he just went straight up cray) it seems weird to me that he would have gone from being so loving towards Delores and then 30 years later is continually raping and murdering her family over and over again?! So that makes me wonder if the man in black is Logan and he is doing that for revenge for Delores "ruining" his brother in law William?
I think that storyline adds up (one of them being the man in black), but it seems such a strong personality shift for William. Then again, maybe William does go from a white hat to a black hat. . . .
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@yoursilverlining: I mean, William did just murder all those hosts in his timeline, so maybe he's gone a tad crazy? I've read some speculation that the Man in Black has been so violent to Dolores and her family in an attempt to "wake her up" again. But I agree that it doesn't really make sense that he could do that to her.
clementine / 995 posts
I don't see it as a huge stretch for William to become the Man in Black, especially after the most recent episode. He dismembered all of those hosts, and I half expected him to stab Logan in the scene where they were hugging.
We don't know exactly what happens in the first episode between Delores and the Man in Black. A lot of people think that he didn't rape her, but was interrogating her about the maze. Also, I may be remembering wrong, but I thought Hector and his gang of outlaws killed Delores's family in the first episode. Teddy kills all the outlaws then the Man in Black shows up after her parents are already dead, kills Teddy, and drags Delores into the barn.
He has done a lot of bad things, but I don't see the Man in Black as the ultimate villain of this show. Ford is more of the villain to me.

Spoilers if you haven't watched it all!
The one thing that doesn't make sense to me about William being the Man in Black is, when he was telling Teddy his life story, I thought he talked about his first time in the park being when he killed Maeve's original host and her daughter and how he did it to see if he could and if he'd feel anything. And that he was surprised he didn't. That doesn't line up with a younger William who has now killed and dismembered a whole bunch of hosts. Plus, at least as Maeve was remembering it, he was already pretty old in that scene. Maybe I need to rewatch that episode to see if I'm remembering wrong about him saying it was his first time in the park when he did that...

Mind is blown after reading your comments. My husband and I were mainly just confused by this week's episode. I didn't even consider that William's story was possibly not the present and was instead an older story line. But when he arrives at WW in the beginning it seems like it's all very current and impossible to have been 35 years ago?
Is Bernard really Arnold? Or is Delores' memory confused? I think he's really Arnold but my husband seems to think he is not. There are 2 white males (Ford and one other) in the photo, plus "Bernard". Apparently I need to start reading some blogs.
clementine / 995 posts
@IRunForFun: The Man in Black says he has been coming to the park for 30 years. I think when he killed Maeve and her daughter was only 1-2 years ago. It was after that Maeve was reassigned to be the madame at the brothel, and I think they say she has only be doing that for a year or so.
pomelo / 5509 posts
@winniebee: I was a little confused by the Arnold/Bernard thing too, but it was my impression there was a real Arnold and then he died/was killed so Ford made Bernard modeled after Arnold?
eggplant / 11824 posts
For me, I can see killing (“killing”?) a bunch of robots you know are robots – and that you need to kill in order to be able to get on with saving the robot you believe is a human - but that’s really different from terrorizing the robot you believe is actually human (and that you’re in love with). But I’ll forgive the show’s writers if I’m in the minority on this one lol I'm on board with William = MIB; just not 100% there yet.
@IRunForFun: I can’t remember the timeframe for when he said that, but MIB I think this is also a morality question. Didn’t MIB say he killed Maeve/child to do something “truly bad” or similiar (or, worse than presumably normal level bad stuff?). He had to kill the soldiers in order to be able to have a chance at finding and saving Delores, so maybe that wasn’t (in his opinion) a “truly bad/evil” act? If you commit violence against soldier robots in order to save a human (or the robot you think is human), is that evil?
My absolute favorite scene (so far) of the entire season is when Bernard takes Theresa into Ford’s house in the woods and he is explaining how the hosts are programmed do that they can’t see things right in front of them, and then T asks him what’s behind the door and he is right in front of the door and responds “what door?” omg, chills went down my spine!! Ahhh, soooooooo creepy and well done. So much better done than the usual over-the-top reveals.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
Part of the Man in Black's backstory though makes me think he can't possibly be William. When he's telling his story to Teddy about how he killed Maeve's daughter, he says this:
"And then something miraculous happened. In all my years coming here, I'd never seen anything like it. She was alive, truly alive, if only for a moment."
Doesn't William believe that Dolores is also truly alive? He certainly seems to act like he believes this. So the Man in Black saying he's never seen anything like it makes me think he can't possibly be William.
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@yoursilverlining: YES! When Bernard couldn't see the door, CHILLS! And then when Theresa showed him the schematic, presumably of HIM, he was all "It doesn't look like anything to me" which is what the Hosts all say when it's something outside their story. That reveal was AMAZING!
eggplant / 11824 posts
@Adira: yesssss that part too was so freaking good. I love how thoughtful this show is and deep. Not just like WOW LOOK AT THIS!!
pomelo / 5509 posts
@yoursilverlining: Hmmmm possibly. I just feel like something doesn't line up 100% with William being MIB.
@Adira: I'm with you. I just can't see how it would work for William to be MIB. But I'm probably wrong. I usually am and it always takes me forever to catch on to things in shows!!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@IRunForFun: I mean, they'd have to really explain why MIB said what he said about Maeve and how she's different from Dolores, because William really seems to believe that Dolores is different from the other Hosts and alive. Maybe seeing her robot insides changed his view of her? But if William IS MIB, why was he cruel to Dolores in the present? It just doesn't make sense to me.
eggplant / 11824 posts
@IRunForFun: @Adira: Nah, I'm with you guys. I don't think William is the MIB, but I feel like the show is pushing it. There are just things that don't add up for me...but I'm probably wrong too!
wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts
@yoursilverlining: @IRunForFun: There's only one more episode this season, right? We'll find out soon enough!!
honeydew / 7230 posts
I've probably been hanging out on the subreddit for too long because I definitely think MIB is William. DH and I have a whole theory worked out about what we think is going on, but it would probably sound crazy to people who don't spend all day thinking about/reading about this show, haha.
