Do you think it's that much less work for you to host a party out of the home? I mean, it's not like you don't have to clean up.
Would you still pay to have a party out if you had the room at home? That is until the kids are older.

I think it's less work because you don't have to clean before hand and don't have to clean very much after. I also tend to do less when we have parties out because I have to transport it all there.

Depends what you mean by 'out'-- at a restaurant, where they provide the food, plates, drinks, servers-- yes, it's way easier. At a function hall where you are just getting a space, but have to bring all the food, etc, I don't know. It depends on how much work it would be to set up your home for the party.

Ya, it was less work and more fun to have it at a play gym for LO's 2nd birthday! The kids had a blast!

Less work, and for us, it might have been less money. We catered some sandwiches and pasta/pizza, and then we also rented tables, chairs, and a canopy (it was outdoors in the middle of July), and a bounce house for the kids. After all of the rental costs added up, it probably would have cost the same or less to have it somewhere else... and we wouldn't have had to clean up!

@Foodnerd81: oh no, not at a restaurant. Just at like a "space" of some sort!
@autumnlove: hahah you so know where my mind is.

@autumnlove: @rachiecakes: I know we all had our LOs' 2nd birthdays at play gyms and I have to agree without a doubt it was FAR less work! Not even close...so much less work having it off site. Especially at a young age with lots of little friends running around

Yep, having a party out is definitely less work!

@sandy: @rachiecakes: @autumnlove: what about the logistics and pain if bringing food and decorations there??
What did you serve?
I'm so annoying with my wavering. Haha

@locavore_mama: pizza for the win...had it delivered. We brought in cake, fruit platter, veggie platter, goldfish crackers, chips, juice, water and cake.
We brought in decor and they helped me set it up.

@locavore_mama: I didn't worry about decor. The play area was enough visually to make the area festive.. The place I had provided balloons and table covers - I picked pink and green. Pizza delivery was included in the rental fee. I had a snack bar - an assortment of crackers and a fruit tray- for the kids. I had 10 guests with various allergies - gluten, dairy, etc. So I did large trays of cured meats and sandwich meats, a tray of various crackers and rolls and condiments for people to make sliders. And a separate tray of cheeses. I also made a cold Thai noodle salad and a corn/black bean salsa with tortilla chips. I also had veggies and hummus cups from costco. I ordered cupcakes and had vegan cupcakes as well. My parents brought coolers with various drinks for kids and adults. I brought my serving dishes and serving spoons, platters etc but there wasn't anything complicated so it was so easy to set out and serve.

@locavore_mama: the place also had a rolling cart for me to load everything on and wheel into the main room. It was so super easy. Much easier than moving furniture around at home and setting everything up at home.

@locavore_mama: the place I had it didn't allow decorations, at first I was bummed but it did make it that much easier. I ordered catering to be delivered and brought favors/the cake. That's it.

I don't know if it's less work...the parties that we attended out of the home still had food, cake, decorations, favors, etc etc etc.
Also, if you do it at a play gym, your party is a set time and you can't linger, especially in the food area.

Way less work to have at a restaurant or play space. Not less work to have at an "open space" - I think those are more work AND end up being more money.

If you have to bring everything with you then no its not less work. If everything is provided then yes!!!

play space parties are the SIMPLEST and the kids have a blast! Just write the check and they do the rest. I sometimes bring special things (cake toppers, goodie bags) but they take care of everything. Games, food, cake, etc. I did Wagon Jr.'s first and second birthdays at home, and then 3rd and 4th were at the same playspace. Probably his 5th too. Haha.
