No beaches right where we live, but Coney Island isn't so far away! We went two weekends ago, and the kids absolutely loved it... guess we'll be going a bunch this summer!

There's one at the end of my street, but it's on a lake, not the ocean. It's always been kind of icky so I haven't been, but it's getting a $500k renovation, so maybe I'll check it out now.

Yep - there's one about 5-10 minutes from our house. But it's also a lake. We haven't taken Xander there yet!

Long Beach on Long Island is where we go. It's an hour ride from penn station. We can also go to coney island but the beach is way too crowded in my opinion. I avoid jones beach for that same reason. The Rockaways in Queens are also accessible but i've never been there. Long beach is perfect for when we want a nice day at the beach. I definitely plan on taking my son.

Yes, about 2 minutes from our house. My family also has a cottage there (not fancy but it's right on the ocean) so I spend almost all my time there in the summer. We get the most beautiful sandbars to walk and play on. And it's not touristy, just mostly locals and very quiet . My little slice of heaven.

Yup, our beach is within walking distance! Love living near the water.

I'm a beach snob and don't consider any beach in NYC a "real" beach. That being said we'll probably visit Coney Island this summer especially with free parking at the aquarium. I really need to go some place in the Caribbean.

Lots of beaches! They're lake beaches, but pretty nice just the same!

4 hours.
There are lakes that are closer but they don't have beaches.

lots of lakes - but DH is quick to inform me that lakes aren't "beaches", only oceans have beaches.

A plane ride I live in the middle of the US, so besides a couple rocky lake beaches, there aren't very many options for beaches.

Yep, we live on an island so the beach is less than a ten minute walk away. Woo hoo!

About an hour away. It's not a nice beach though. The pretty beaches are about four hours away.

We have to drive several hours. We want to move somewhere coastal someday.

Yes, we're 1 block from lake Michigan, obviously not the ocean, but I'll take it!

I hate that where we live in Florida, its still almost an hour drive to a beach
pomelo / 5220 posts
Less than 10 minutes away, but it is not a "nice" beach. We usually drive about an hour for a nicer beach.

About a 5 minute walk or 30 second drive!! We live on a beach town on a Great Lake. It's a gorgeous beach.

Yep! I live in Point Pleasant - beach is about a mile and a half? We never go!!!

We brought LO to Coney Island for the first time yesterday and it was AMAZING!! We went first thing, got there by 9:45 and it was so peaceful - we basically had the whole thing to ourselves. LO won't nap except in his crib, so we were home by 1. It was perfect and we plan on going all summer.

About 3 hours away for us....but it's a crazy busy beach, so we never go! We live right near a river, though, and we spend a lot of time on the water.

We got lake beaches about 20-30 min away, but ocean beaches are about 2-4 hrs away. It's too cold up in the Seattle area, so we usually go down south to the OR beaches. It's a bit warmer.
I miss going to the NJ shore. It was a 2 hr drive but it was usually warm enough to, at least, lay out.

We live 10 minutes from Siesta Key, one of the best beaches in the US. We should really take advantage of it a lot more cause we hardly ever go.

We're close to Lake Erie, but I definitely wouldn't be going swimming in it, no real sand in our area - just much and grossness for the most part. So jealous of those of you who live near the ocean!

I know most don't consider this close, but being in PA and landlocked, an hour to the Jersey shore is close!!

Lots of beaches around but I'm not a beach person, so rarely take advantage of them.

We live in a beach town; the sand is about a five minute walk from our front door. We had a grilled dinner down there, last night. We walk the beach often, as well.
