My mom made me watch a Michael J. Fox movie called The Secret to My Success. In it he worked in the mail room. I started to wonder if mail rooms are even necessary anymore because of email.

yep- i work in the corp building, so we have a huge mail room.... they actually take on their own projects and such not just handling our mail!

We have a mail room, which I discovered when I had our wedding bands shipped to the office - I was living in an apartment building then and didn't want the Blue Nile box sitting in the vestibule. Of course, the package went MISSING and it took many panicked phone calls and trips to the bowels of the office to track it down. Gah.

We had a mail at my old job, but it was more of a department responsible for mailing items for us, coordinating mailings, and managing electronic and paper filing. I didn't realize how spoiled I was until I came to my new job and had to stuff and stamp all my own mailings

Yup! They make several runs throughout the day to pick up/deliver snail mail. They also manage supply inventory so they order and deliver those as requested.
