I never would have thought the south would be the place for me until I came here. I love it.
I think I have the least amount of interest in living in the southwest. The hot dry air in contrast with the constant running ac makes my sinuses hurt. But I've heard Albuquerque is getting hip, so never say never.

Um, anywhere but Florida? Seriously, don't think I'll ever leave this state.

Haha I figured Texas would get a lot of hate. Y'all are missing out!!
I don't want to live anywhere that has lots of snow or cold. So Id prefer to stay south of the Mason Dixon line. Does that keep me away from the cold?

No Bible Belt, no Midwest, nowhere that has even worse winters than we do. So basically I can live in the NE and CA

Texas. Except Austin, which I don't really consider part of Texas.
The Bible Belt wouldn't be good for me either.

Nothing in the Deep South. I'd rather not live in fear of gators and snakes in my toilet!

Texas isn't so bad! And Houston is very liberal, y'all! We have a female, gay mayor! We have one if the most diverse populations in the US! Ok, I'll stop being defensive....
I'm from NY originally, but I'd rather live somewhere a bit warmer. So not much interest in moving back North.

No Florida, Arizona, or Deep South (GA, AL, MS) for me. Or Texas, mostly for DH, but also for the blast-furnace heat.

@locavore_mama: It's an acquired taste, really, it is. I didn't realize how much it was ingrained in my head, though, until I was coming back from camping with my husband. It had been sunny the whole time- totally gorgeous. It got kind of misty on the way home, and I got so excited at the prospect of snuggling up in blankets with a bowl of clam chowder. I was actually disappointed that it was sunny at home.

Anywhere where it gets really hot or really cold. Anywhere more than an hour from the beach. I prefer my sunny and 75 Southern California coast.

@birdofafeather: same
I can't live in the snow but crazy heat just isn't for me. Cali and Hi are the only 2 places I could ever live

My DH and I decided we couldn't live anywhere in the US, so we left.

It's easier to list the places I WOULD want to live: the northeast, the PNW, possibly parts of California, maybe Chicago.
You couldn't pay me enough to live in a Bible Belt state, Texas, Florida, or anywhere that's hot all the time.

No where! Lol! You guys have too many guns for this Canadian!

@coacheswife123: I'm cracking up at all these people saying they couldn't possibly ever live below the Bible Belt, oh the horror! Do they think people walk around preaching all day and they'll be crucified (see what I did there) if they aren't conservative Christian?
Where I live now it's a good six hour drive to the ocean and it's the only thing I hate about living here. I wouldn't want to live any farther from the coast. But I COULD live anywhere. I never thought I'd end up in TN but here we are, happy and healthy and successful with a great support system.

Interesting question! I would eventually like to live on the west coast, I had always said when I turned 40 I would be living in Newport Beach, but that doesn't look like it's happening any time soon.
I prefer to live somewhere where I could get direct flights into central Europe...I don't want to deal with having to make connections or having to recheck my bags upon entry into the US.

Anywhere without seasons! No snow in winter would make me sad.
But also, anyplace with extreme seasons. Negative temps in the winter and 100s in the summer? No thanks! I think some of the Midwest is like this, no?

I don't want to live anywhere that has earthquakes, hurricanes, or poisonous bugs! So... I think I'm staying in New England!
pomelo / 5000 posts
Weather and seasons is what factors into the decision for me. I wouldn't do well in places with long, hard winters. I'm a cold weather wimp. It's too bad b/c I do love Michigan summers! I also think I wouldn't love living somewhere that didn't have much change in the seasons.

@MamaMoose: oh wait. You mean all you southerners don't have huge crosses on your front lawn and go to church every Sunday? I kid. I kid. But truthfully, the southern lifestyle is too slow for me. Every time I visit I get so frustrated by how slow every thing moves. But I'm a new yorker at heart so I'm sure all the southerners wonder where the heck all new yorkers are in a rush to get to.

I could probably find a way to be happy anywhere. I really miss having the ocean in my life and would prefer a coast. Alaska is too far from family, same for Hawaii but if I were living in Hawaii I'm sure I'd have lots of guests.
I've lived in the south and loved it. Grew up in the north east, love California.
I'm flexible.

@Fronkinzankinsbride: I have lived in NM this year a few hours north of ABQ and the weather is to die for! Never too cold in the winter (sunshine every day) and the summers are hot like 80s but it's not humid!
I couldn't live in Oklahoma or Kansas or areas right around there

Anywhere that has tornadoes. I used to live in an area that would get them and although is was a beautiful place to live otherwise, the fear of that tornado warning popping up on the tv screen still haunts me

@locavore_mama: My husband looooves it here. He is 6th generation in our city, so his entire family lives here (they have their own cemetery!), so he just thinks it's the best. My family lives here, too, but they're slowly trickling into the Carolinas. That's the only reason I'm here. I will say that the water in Florida is the only thing I would miss considerably. The springs are magical and I could never live far from the beach. But it's too hot, too conservative, and too boring for my likes.

There are very few places I would move to outside of new england. Could never live in deep south- hot, humid, no seasons, gators, huge bugs....I would die. Could never live in midwest area like Kansas or Oklahoma- terrified of tornadoes and need to be by ocean. Could never live in very cold/remote states like Dakotas, Alaska, Wisconson. I would say the only states I would consider would be North Carolina, Northern/Mid California, and the PNW just looks lovely.

I could never live anywhere outside of driving distance to the coast, or anywhere cold! I happen to love living in the South
blogger / watermelon / 14218 posts
It would be very very very difficult for me to imagine living anywhere outside of New England! I've visited many places and even though I can't stand humidity and I'd be RIDICULOUSLY FAT if I lived anywhere in the south, I can't say i HATE too many places. I live in a city that most people end up "hating" and leaving. But I love it!!!!! Never wanna leave. It would have to take a MASSIVE opportunity to uproot my family from here.

@travellingbee: Right?? Houston is the shiz! I think as far as cost of living and job opportunities go it really can't be beat! And I happen to hate snow so that's a plus, too
