For our son, we picked my first choice - but more like my only choice, because we just couldn't think of that many names.
For our daughter, my wife mentioned the name and I went with it (especially because my daughter was very small at birth, and that's a perfect fit with her name). I didn't love the name right away, but now I do! But once again, my lack of name imagination meant that it was basically the only name on our short list!

We only had one name choice for a girl and one for a boy. So we would have gone with either depending on the sex of the baby. Obviously, we chose Ella and that was our only thought for a girl name

Yes and no? Before we talked about names, I had a favorite name (as did OH) but we didn't agree on a name. Then one day out of the blue we both thought of the same name because it was perfect for a baby he and I had together. So my first choice instantly changed.

No. DS's name is DH's middle name, and DD's name is his grandmother's name, and was non-negotiable for him. They are both lovely names and I love them now, but they weren't my first choices.

Yes, mostly. I do wish we'd been able to use River for a baby that lived, but Liliana was my first choice once it was off the table. Unfortunately we've never agreed on a boy name or any other girl name, so if we have another we're in trouble!

We had never discussed it beforehand, but my sibling and his spouse used the boy name I had been coveting (since I was a teenager!) for my nephew. I was happy for their great taste but also disappointed, especially now that I'm pregnant with a boy--but all I can say is that they got to the buffet table first

Fun question! My husband and I actually had the same first choice that we didn't end up going with - his mom has a very bad association with it with someone in the family. She never asked us not to go with that name and even said it would be okay, but we didn't want to do something that would knowingly cause her pain. The name we ended up going with was a close second anyway, so it all worked out.

For our first, yes. We came up with it early on and agreed on it and love it. It's perfect for her.
For our second it's always been one of my favorite names but it's really popular which was a sticking point for me. Obviously we went with it and I love the name, but I still worry it will be too popular and annoying for her. But neither of us had a name we liked more.

Dd- Her nn was tied for first but I never loved the longer version. I'm still just ok with it.
Ds- It was tied with one other name. I definitely love it now though.

No. LO's name is one I've always liked, but I never would have picked iton my own because there are other names I liked better. DH and I narrowed our list down to three names, then the front-runner got eliminated due to pronunciation issues, and DH expressed a preference for LO's name between the remaining two. We get so many compliments on her name and I love it now.

for dd no, but we googled the first name + middle name of our first choice and it was a porn stars name! 
the middle name was pretty non negotiable since it was a friend who had passed away so we used our 2nd choice first name.
for ds, the first name was my first choice, the middle name is a bit random and has no meaning but dh loves the name

It ended up being my 2nd choice since my 1st choice my husband wasn't on board for. But my 2nd choice didn't feel like a compromise at all, I really loved it also and it made me love it more because my husband liked it too.

Nope. I had a long list of names I liked, and my husband fell in love with one name on the list as soon as he saw it. It took some time to convince me that it was the name, but I love it now. Her middle name was one of my top choices.

She was supposed to be Linny (Linnea), but I like the way my part of the world pronounces it, as opposed to how they say it here (the original way). Plus, I didn't want a namesake, so that was axed.

For DD1 - yes. We came up with the name at about six weeks pregnant and were instantly set on it. We never wavered in our decision, although being TG we had to come up with a boy name as well, which was a far harder struggle, so we were glad when LO1 was a girl!
For DD2 - I was set on the name Olivia and DH was set on the name Charlotte. We went round and round and round and never came to an agreement, but we did have a boy name picked. Then she was born (another TG baby!) and being a girl, we had to make a decision. We went with C as I liked the name, I just liked O better, but DH really didn't like O at all. Now, two years on, I absolutely LOVE C's name and actually prefer it to DD1's name!

No. I wanted to name her Jessalynn but DH hated it. And thank goodness because now that name isn't really a favorite of mine. We named her Jessie instead and it fits her so perfectly. I was so-so about it for a while but I love it on her now.
I wanted to name DD2 Charlie. I pushed so so so hard for it but again, DH hated it. So I decided that I liked the name Sydney, it went well with Jessie and it wasn't too out there or masculine. I didn't give DH a choice that time. I told him it was her name and he needed to like it.

@Mrs. Sunshine: I love your names! sweet and traditional but not so ubiquitous. I knew someone who named their daughter Charlie and they used to call her Charles around the house, it was awesome.

With DS, once DH saw the name he was stuck on it, and there was no going back. Plus it was the first name we agreed on. I love the name, and it fits him so much. It just wouldn't have been what i picked on my own.
DD, both of us had a favorite name, and wouldn't budge. So we waited till she was born to pick. DH name for her to a tee, so his first choice won again haha

Yes because I love his name and I was/am 100% on board with it (and suggested the nickname we use for it). I even first suggested honoring the family member with it.
No because it's a name from my husband's side of the family and if I wasn't with my husband (in a weird alternative world) I would not have selected it. Mainly because it's a very unique name (he's like 1 of 5 in the US, if that) and I would look sort of stalkerish.

@Jackiedavis87: we were pretty set on Hazel for most of my pregnancy and changed our minds the last week. It's funny now because I love that name but she just totally doesn't look like a Hazel to me now.

Yes. We were set with our girl name before being pregnant so of course DS1 turned out to be a boy!
Early in the pregnancy we sat down and listed out what our criteria was. I wanted a name not in the SS Top 100, that had a cute NN, while my husband insisted that it be a name pronounced the same in English and Spanish. That narrowed it to maybe 50 names of which we liked maybe 10?
Lorenzo (nn Enzo) was an early frontrunner and a few weeks after we found out the sex we were in love with it. His MN will be Vicente which is my dad's and grandfathers MN. DH doesn't love it (his vote was for Rafael as mn) but acquiesced since he's super close to my dad and thinks it's more meaningful to use a family name rather than an name he just likes. I guess I got my first choice for both names!

We went with my 2nd or 3rd choice, depending on how you see it. I loved Ava the most, but DH and I felt it was too popular so it was never a serious option. I think my actual first choice was probably Evelyn, but DH nixed that as being too popular as well. We ended up going with the name I suggested next.

Nope for DS, and I wasn't in love with it either. DH was though. I'm slowly getting more used to it. He's only 2.5 now... 
For DD, we had a short list of names when we were coming up with names for DS so we picked her name rather quickly! And I like it!

Hazel and Eleanor were at the top of our list for girl names. We both started leaning towards Hazel for most of my pregnancy and while there were moments I was like "are we SURE??" (mostly just because it felt like such a big decision), once it became the front runner my husband never reconsidered. We totally love her name!
