When I was at L&D triage yesterday, the OB on call was really great but I was annoyed when he called me "Mama" and "Girlfriend" whenever he would check up on me. DH thought it was hilarious and he is also calling me "Mama" and "Girlfriend" today.

Lol! I would not like that very much. My old OB was really snide and condescending, but the one I have now is great. I know I ask her some really stupid questions, but she pretends they're not. I also know she does not personally agree with me wanting to have a natural birth, but she goes with the flow of what I want to do for my baby.

My Dr. called me Momma a lot, but it didn't bug me - I kinda liked it.
She was closer in age to me though, and I generally felt really comfortable around her, so she probably could have gotten away with a lot

My doctor seems pretty professional. She's really bubbly and makes jokes which I really like.

I think my Doc calls me Mama because she doesn't know my name -.-
Girlfriend would drive me bonkers though!

I've seen two, and the first was very professional and nice. The second was asking me about my questions, since I'm nowhere close to labor, and I didn't really like that.

@prettylizy: "What up girlfriend! I'm gonna discharge you in about 15 minutes!" LOL! He is probably in his 50s....hahhaa

My dr is professional, but we also knew each other before I started seeing her. Her daughter was in my preschool class a couple years ago. The first appointment I had with her is when I found out about my missed m/c last year. I have her number and she texts to ask how I'm doing every so often.

She is, but I don't really like that. I'd rather her call me "girlfriend" lol!
I joke a lot, and she just does not find me funny at.all. She isn't very nice.

My doctor calls us all by our first names. We joke and get along really well, but I could never picture him say "girlfriend'.
On another note I am a nurse and I HATE when other nurses call people "sweetie" and "honey". We are all adults and it is annoying to everyone:)

I don't think my OB has ever addressed me! At our appts, she walks in asking how I feel then proceeds with the appointment and ends it by saying, "see you in 4 weeks!"
All our customers call me "lil momma" though. I found it odd at first, but am starting to somewhat get used to it.

For the most part, but he had odd social skills.
I had a hemmhorage after birth, and after he fixed me up he made a huge stink about the fact that I had bled all over his scrubs. Sorry, dude. My bad?

@autumnlove: My OB is professional, and our birth mom's was up until time of delivery when he gave us his unsolicited opinion. I was considering switching to him until he said what he said.
I like a doctor I can relate with, but professionalism is also very important.

Mine is really easy to relate to, which I adored. She acted like a friend, which I know other people don't like, but it was much less intimidating for me. For example- when we made the decision that I should stop working at 34 weeks, even though it wasn't bed rest (it was more of a preventative measure because I was flippin' HUGE), I told her I would need a letter from her, and that my insurance might cause a stink about it because it wasn't officially bed rest. She said, and I quote, "Oh, don't worry- I'm good at making shit up." I love that she swore in front of me- it made her seem more human.

My OB calls me by my first name but the labor nurse I had called me mama and girlfriend too, but it didn't bother me at all. No sense being stuffy ;). We got pretty chatty between pushes though

I love my doctor, she is professional but super easy to talk too. I wish I could have her as my general practice doctor. I was so happy she was on call and ended up delivering Reagan. Comforting having her there since I hadn't gone through it before.

haha! my OB was laid back but not with nicknames. he just told a lot of funny personal stories about his kids, stuff like that. I love him!

Mine is super professional but at the same time she can joke a little bit. I love Dr.s who are able to do their job well but aren't so serious all the time. I miss my GP. He quit practicing because he had ethical issues with the way insurance was trying to do his job for him but before he left he was amazing! Seriously! It was like a short hang out session with a Dr. who could get serious when necessary, knew his stuff, and yet wasn't afraid to drop the F bomb or ask to take a picture of a rash that was seriously insane for his med students. (Yay weird placement of shingles rash on a 20 year old!!!) He is definitely think kind of guy you love or hate and I happened to love him.
I love Dr.s who joke around so long as they still know what they are doing and can get serious when it is time.
