That has got to be annoying! I got the opposite from my mother and sister. They were shocked that I wasn't going to finish my residency and become a doctor. They kept calling it a waste. Thank you ladies! haha

My MIL said I bet you couldn't wait to quit school and stay home once you married my son! But I expect nothing less from her

My MIL is not, when we were talking about looking at daycares she kept mentioning "oh, I know you wish you didn't have to look at them at all." and similar statements. So she definitely thinks I should not be working.

My mom is cool with me doing whatever makes me happy. In an ideal world I'd work PT, but if I can't do that, then I'd rather work FT and keep my sweet benefits.

Both of our families were supportive of my decision to stay home. MIL was a SAHM so she loves that I want to do that too. My mom always worked, so I think she doesn't really understand it but is supportive of it (at least to my face).

My family is supportive of our decision for me to stay home when our son is born. I think I am the one that has issues about it. I want to work!

I haven't told my family that I plan to be a SAHM when LO is born. I think DH's parents will be thrilled about it. I think my parents will be fine with it, but maybe a little...mystified? As to why I would want to do that. My mom worked through raising me and my sister, and still works now even though she's technically retired. So it might be hard for them to get it. My sister will be super jealous--she really wishes she didn't have to work. I'm kind of dreading telling her, actually--i'm going to put it off as long as possible!

My parents are totally on board. His still don't understand it (his Mom was a SAHM as soon as she got pregnant with her first). I think it's a generational thing but also, my parents have seen me succeed and do well in my field. They might be slightly disappointed if I decided to stay at home! But either way, they would be supportive of my decision.

My husband's parents are very supportive of our decision to have me stay home once the baby is here because his mom did the same thing. It's a bit more foreign to my parents since my mom always worked and my dad has always taught me to have a good work ethic. They understand why it's important to us though (my husband has NO schedule so any routine and structure will come from me). The one person who makes comments about it is my sister. She'll frequently say something like "must be nice to not have to go to work" or when I said something about my color coded closet she commented that "people with jobs don't have that luxury" even though I work now and my closet is color-coded. It gets annoying but I know that we just have different opinions on this so I don't let it bother me too much.

I don’t think my MIL would truly support me being a SAHM mom. I don’t think she would ever say anything to me or my husband about her thoughts (we get along great and she is awesome), but she is very career focused and I think she would feel that I was taking advantage of my husband/her son a bit by choosing to not financially contribute equally to our household.

My mom was a SAHM mom and I think 6 or 7 years ago she would have given me a bit of a hard time for not staying home, but considering the precarious financial position my parents are now in (and will be in for the rest of their lives) due to her not financially contributing for 30+ years – she doesn’t say anything to me one way or the other about my choice to continue working.

My 90 year old grandmother asked if my husband would “allow” me to work once LO is here LOLOL - I don’t care what anyone else in our families think, and don’t know what their opinions are.

My parents and in-laws are supportive of me working full-time. They actually cut me a lot of slack about not being a great cook/housekeeper bc I work full time and bc I'm the breadwinner while my husband's in residency. But, my husbands's cousins are all SAHMs and they are sometimes a bit judgy like "I just couldn't do it...leave my kids to be raised by someone else." BUT, my FIL is judgy of them like "When are you going to get a job?".....sooooo in conclusion I've decided you can't please everyone either way so I might as well do what works for me for now.

I'm going back to work. I love my career, it's not just a "job".
My mom is a hard worker with great work ethics and my MIL was a SAHM but she semi-worked for their personal business.
They are both supportive of whatever decision I decide to make.

I think my mom just feels really bad that she is unable to help us out by watching our baby full time for us. She would do it in a heartbeat if we lived close by.

Considering I've always been the bread winner in our relationship and the DH is knows this, my family and his family will have to be supportive of our decision. DH is in school right now and maybe in a couple years he might make as much as me but until then, I'll have to be a working mom. We already talked about this before we got married that he would love to be a SAHD or WAHD. I'm fine with it, too!

I am back at work part time. Neither my mum or mil have said anything bad about it, they are both very supportive. Mum likes hearing about LO's day care, the things they do and how lovely they are with LO.
