Way smaller! Not many people here live in apartments. A lot of the (married, with kids) families I know have houses greater than 2000 square feet. Our apartment is 1000 square feet. I'm fine with it, as a family of three it works great and it's less to clean. It also means we have less stuff, and I like that.
But it also means we don't ever get to have people over because it's too small.

I think about average with friends with families. Some of my closest friends are single and they think my house is large compared to their condos and homes.

Our house (2750 sq ft) is pretty average among our friends. Most of our family have larger houses than that.

Most of our friends have left the city. So compared to city condos, ours is pretty average sized (about 1000 sq ft). Compared to all those friends who have moved to the suburbs our condo is way smaller because they all moved out to big houses. We won't move out of the city until we can more than double our square footage probably.

Our house is 1200 sqft and I feel like most of my friends with kids around here live in houses that are around 1800-2200.

Ours is about the same as our friends' houses - around the 1000sq ft mark. My inlaws house is the same, too, and my mum lives in a tiny flat (apartment).

For city living friends ours is average (700sf-1000sf is average).
A lot of friends moved to the 'burbs and have bigger houses.

We have 2600 sq ft. We seem to have the largest home of those that own vs rent houses that I have seen, but entertaining in someone's home is not the norm here. Some of our friends still rent apartments too. Our friends don't necessarily live near us either- take a hour in either direction and you'll find a pal. Once we start having play dates at home I will be a better judge as to how our home compares with others in our actual area and perhaps age.

Totally varies. Many of my friends live in Boston area and homes there are so crazy expensive, so our home is bigger than theirs. Around here, we have friends whose homes are smaller and some are larger.

Our house is bigger than most people we know but we really wanted a house we could grow into. And my husband wanted a huge yard, he and my son are always out there working and exploring. We don't travel or have expensive hobbies, we keep cars for years and years, the house is our focus.

Average to small for the neighborhood. It's smaller than my friends homes but we all live in different neighborhoods/towns.

I'd say ours is about average for the neighborhood and among our friends (1900 sqft). I live in a pretty rural area, and many houses are around the same size with the difference being in year it was built and amount of land.

Probably similar to both or slightly larger BUT it was a big fixer upper, and it's older so it was at a lower price point than newer smaller houses, if that makes sense.

Our apt is bigger than most of our friends who live in the city (our closest friends in our city are single and either have 1 bedrooms or roommates) but smaller than our friends' who live in the suburbs nearby and have houses. We are so jealous of those houses, lol...

I'd say average for the area and in my group of friends. Yes, there are giant houses in other neighborhoods close by but there are also smaller ones. Same goes for my group of friends - some people have larger homes and others have smaller but we're pretty much right in the middle where most everyone else is size wise
