I loved it! hahahaha I loved the conversations with the interior decorator.

She ignores "Goodnight nobody" and the weird shading of certain parts of the room. I've always told my husband that I thought the author and illustrator dropped some hallucinogens when they wrote this book.

haha this made me laugh so hard!
I saw one of these a while back, and there was also mention of the creepy bunny fishing for other bunnies.

I just spit out my drink
The interior decorating and the bears in therapy cracked me up!!!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
I had to stifle laughter at my desk. I was cracking UP! I'm glad you all find it funny! What a terribly illogical children's book, now that I've read this!

@blackbird: I remember when we first got it and I flipped through it, I was just like "wtf happened here... how is this a book? Mush? nobody? good night air? wtf. my eyes. wtfffffffff".
But L loves it and the more I read it the more I don't mind it.

Funny! S/he didn't mention the animal skin rug. I've thought most of these things before too.
pineapple / 12802 posts
@travellingbee: The rug was mentioned in the interior design comments!!

@.twist.: apparently, we need to high and/or drunk, write a children's book, and retire in style while we laugh at all the SUCKER PARENTS who now have to read this weird book to their kids.
grapefruit / 4819 posts
Lol! I have to admit, I never thought about most of these things, and we read this book a lot!

@Mrs. Lion: mommy bunny fishing for baby bunny in The Runaway Bunny where the mommy bunny at one point tells the baby bunny she is going to blow him. Both of these books have issues.

@blackbird: I feel like sometimes I need to get high/drunk to read this book.

Agreed. Super weird. Although I did have tomato and black speckled commercial 80s carpet in my teenage room (My brother and I moved down to the basement after my parents separated the den). After I moved out my parents had the sense to install laminate flooring down there. That was the stuff of nightmares, just like this book. And for some reason I wanted purple walls. Sigh - the 90s!

Haha, the fireplace safety always bothers me. I don't like that they name the older bunny as "old lady." I change it to "mommy" when I read it to LO.

I used to give this book as a shower gift, but then I read it as an adult once I had my kids. It's so weird! We change the words when we read it "Good night creepy lady who inexplicably has bunny ears." Now I give people The Going to Bed Book for showers.

I'm reading this and I have tears in my eyes...LOs asking if I'm okay
coconut / 8472 posts
@twodoghouse: Haha, the going to bed book bothers me so much because they all get ready for bed and *then* exercise. WTF?
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@ShootingStar: I think about that every.single.time! Who does that?!?
honeydew / 7230 posts
@ShootingStar: @Mrs. Lion: That's my favorite part! It makes me laugh every time, but it totally annoys DH!
pomelo / 5132 posts
@ShootingStar: @twodoghouse: @Mrs. Lion: YES! They all need to bathe together again.
blogger / grapefruit / 4836 posts
@Mrs. J: I mean seriously...do I really want to teach my kid that running around and jumping rope is part of bedtime?? But it's so darn catchy. We read it anyway haha
pineapple / 12053 posts
@ShootingStar: @Mrs. Lion: @twodoghouse: @Mrs. J: @cascademom: WHY DO THEY GO EXERCISE?!
i love tearing apart kids' books. but the book was written a long time ago, so i give it a little leeway!

lol that post was funny. I do have to defend GM a little. I personally love the book. I think it's cute. The little bunny is saying goodnight to everything in his room (including nobody, I think that part is funny). I guess I'm weird.
@ShootingStar: @Mrs. Lion: @twodoghouse: @Mrs. J: @cascademom: @birdofafeather: OMG! Yes! I never understood why they take a bath then go exercise! lol

I used to think Goodnight Moon was ridiculous until I read this short article by Aimee Bender (an author I love) http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/opinionator/2014/07/19/what-writers-can-learn-from-good-night-moon/
ETA: ok, I read the Ugly Volvo page about the book and was laughing so hard I was crying. That was awesome
honeydew / 7295 posts
I love Goodnight Moon and always will but the bears couples therapy session bit was hilarious!!!!
wonderful grape / 20453 posts
@Chuckles: I always wonder if authors "plan" their books out like this! It's so well thought out, despite the crazy. Or if someone is just....breaking something down and finding things in a book that never actually were put there intentionally (i often wonder about that with metaphors in older classics. Like, does X really mean X? Or did the author think "ohhhh a waterfall would be pretty" and then we extrapolate all these fancy metaphors.
