My DH and I do not like the added attention, so we don't. We make sure the other does not do it secretly. We know that if the other does, that it would be war! haha
I'll take a free dessert but would skip on the singing part. Plus, we are usually too full to get dessert.

when we go out with friends no one ever sings for each other and i definitely prefer that.

I'm certainly not going to stop anyone from singing to me! And if it comes with a free dessert, even better!
But I don't usually tell the waiters if it's someone's birthday, and my husband definitely wouldn't do that.

i get sad when they don't sing. haha jk. there's a restaurant chain here that makes the birthday person stand on the chair and put on moose antlers... one of my friends REFUSED and made a big scene about it and that was more embarrassing than just standing on the chair and taking the 10 second song. it was horrible and i still think about it often!

I don't think i've been a restaurant anytime recently where they do the singing. But no. I would HATE it.

hell no! my parents had them sing to me once when i was maybe 10 at the hard rock cafe in DC and i got up and walked out. fortunately, most nice places around here won't sing, they'll just stick a candle in your dessert. i hate going out to dinner and listening to birthday songs, i get irrationally annoyed by it if they're singing to adults.

@Synchronicity: haha i have worked at 4 montanas and know ALLLLL the birthday songs. and used to do them alone when everyone else refused to come out for them! i love them! haha.
@mrs. bird: i recently went to an asian fusion restaurant that sang over a microphone with karaoke for birthdays. the guy who sang could baaaaarely speak english and he did it probably 6-8 times while we were there in one hour. you would have HATED it.

@Mamaof2: Haha! Same here. If it was a friend that did it and didn't know I would not like the attention, I would sit through it with a beat red embarrassed face!
