Today sucked. I went in to have my IUD placed and after 15 minutes of pure torture, almost passing out and puking, they could not get my IUD past my cervix. So now they have to try and convince the salesman to reimburse my $850 (which might not happen), and I feel awful and sore and cried for a good hour. I guess every once and a while someone comes around whose cervix just won't cooperate. I even took a medication that was supposed to help relax it. This is just a rant because I'm sad, but has anyone else had this issue?

Wow, sorry about that. Was this your first time getting this type of IUD? I would think they absolutely would reimburse your money, why would you pay for something that you didnt actually get?

Wow-- that sucks! I'm sorry you had to go through AND now you have to figure out the cost! I've heard generic horror stories but never actually heard what the real problem is until this. Good to know. Have you had kids? I hear it is easier if you have already had children.

@Foodnerd81: I have a 6 month old, but he was breech and I never dialated. I had a scheduled c section.
@Mrsbells: The obgyn's in my area don't stock IUD's so you have to personally order then from the manufacturer (CVS Caremark). So the doctor has to try and convince them to reimburse me because they couldn't insert it. They can't guarantee they will.

@bree72: I'm so sorry this happened! I was tortured for 15-20 minutes while i sobbed and writhed, and they had to have 3 doctors try before finally getting mine in. So it did eventually go in but what an awful experience. i wouldn't wish that pain on anyone, so sorry you had to go through it!

@bree72: I'm so sorry this happened to you! My attempt to get an IUD was also a total failure (though I haven't had a baby). I got super dizzy, cold, and almost threw up and eventually they told me my uterus was tilted so far back that they couldn't force the IUD any more without risking puncturing anything. That was several years ago, and sure enough at my recent HSG I saw that my uterus is totally tilted backwards! So, no IUD for me. Did they say anything to you about why this happened? Hope you're feeling better!

@spaniellove: They just said my cervix was really closed and they couldn't maneuver the IUD past it into my uterus. I guess its not a totally uncommon problem. And my cervix never ripened or dialated at all since my LO was a footling breech. My cervix is not my friend.
Thanks for all the encouragement. Ive been really upset all day and I feel a little better now. Especially seeing that I wasn't being a total wimp and it was awful for some of you too.
