I am NOT a fan of hers....for a variety of reasons. But she'll bring in better ratings for the View, so I get why they did it.

I don't know much about her. I read her pregnancy book though and didn't like it at all.
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@MsLipGloss: Her pregnancy booked sucked (in my opinion - I don't need to hear about you bitching about your highest pregnancy weight when it was the weight I was at before I got pregnant) and I don't support her anti-vaccination movement and think she touts life threatening and dangerous information in that regard.
pineapple / 12526 posts
@highwire: Agreed.
Her spewing information about vaccines that was admitted to be false years ago and claiming she cured her sons autism with diet is absolutely ridiculous and dangerous. She's a whack job. She should have stuck to being the hot funny girl with the big fake boobs.
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@highwire: I'm with you on the vaccination stuff (and her book wasn't that great either) . . . but . . . is weight gain any less traumatic/ less deserving of sympathy/empathy because of where someone started before the gain occurred?
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@MsLipGloss: I sympathize, but she was referring to herself as a whale (if I recall)...and I didn't care for that being what someone of that weight deserves to be called.
squash / 13199 posts
@highwire: I am also not a fan, she misled a lot of people with her "vaccines causes autism capaign"
honeydew / 7444 posts
I get why they did it (for ratings), but i agree with above, she is a whack job.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@Mrsbells: The article i linked says, "About one in four adults said they were familiar with McCarthy’s views about vaccines, according to a USA TODAY/Gallup poll taken in 2008. Of those adults, 40% said her claims made them more likely to question vaccine safety."
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@highwire: Ah, well, I interpreted that as her feeling like one versus passing judgment regarding anybody else's weight . . . but I can totally see where you are coming from.
FWIW, I think you're hawt. Weight or no weight. Giggity!
GOLD / eggplant / 11517 posts
@MsLipGloss: Haha thanks! I mean, I didn't say my reasoning was necessarily fact. I just got a really bad taste in my mouth after reading her book, got butt hurt about it, and from then on decided I officially didn't like her
squash / 13199 posts
@Freckles: wow I had no idea she had that much of an impact... what a shame
pear / 1992 posts
Ugh. All of this. Mostly the anti vaccine stance though. She never bothered me before, but now I can't stand her.
wonderful cherry / 21504 posts
I am not really a fan (not for any reason, just think she is a little annoying) but I also dislike the View, so it certainly won't impact my decision to not watch it. I read an opinion thing about how her being on the view, with her vaccination opinions, is putting lives at risk. It's hard for me to believe that someone would place more value on Jenny McCarthy's opinion on vaccinations than on their doctor's opinion, but @Freckles: comment makes me fear I give people too much credit for having common sense.
Still... I don't really care either way. I can't stand that show!
GOLD / pineapple / 12662 posts
@highwire: I did read her book *before* packed on all of the 60 pounds I packed on . . . ! (I was 135 pre-pg, and I am 5'7", for reference.)
@Mrsbells: @Freckles: And yeah, it *is* a shame when people take the word of some celebrity as opposed to seeking out sound medical information/fact. *lesigh*

I'm sad they are giving any voice to harmful and erroneous views.
grapefruit / 4056 posts
I think it is a shame, not only do I find her uneducated and I think the way she spouts false information is disgusting. I also think she is extremely annoying, and I won't be watching the View as long as she is on it.
papaya / 10473 posts
I only tune in to the View sporadically but I'll be consciously avoiding it now. The misinformation she has spread makes me angry.
GOLD / squash / 13464 posts
I agree that it's sad that she has spread so much false information. But I also think it's important to remember that she is also just a parent who is desperate for a reason/cause/scapegoat for her son's diagnosis.
And I actually thought Belly Laughs was funny.
honeydew / 7444 posts
@MsLipGloss: To quote her, i kid you not, "Well, I believe that parents' anecdotal information is science-based information." Nuff said.
pomegranate / 3890 posts
How is the view still on the air?!?!? There has been soanu cohost changing and its gonna downhill.
I fins it funny they replace Elisabeth with jenny. Haha what an insult to Elisabeth. Hmm don't care for either of them
wonderful pea / 17279 posts
I think she's funny. I don't like that she and Holly Robinson Pete went on a devastating anti-vaccine campaign.
pineapple / 12234 posts
@stargal: aren't Joy and Barbara leaving too?
I'm not a fan of her but I haven't liked the view for awhile.
clementine / 943 posts
Welllllll... She DID gain a LOT of weight while pregnant. Numbers aside, she was pretty big when pregnant soooooo... Take that as you will, but I don't think there's anything wrong with her calling herself a "whale" or whatnot in the sense that I think she was trying to poke fun at herself, and rightly so. She probably knows that being that big wasn't healthy for her, and she was probably embarrassed (again, as she should be).
That being said, her viewpoints on vaccinations are scary. I haven't liked The View for a long time, and this isn't the way to go if they're trying to gain viewers.
honeydew / 7916 posts
I'm disappointed that they chose Jenny after all the misinformation and scary medical advice she has put out there.
pomegranate / 3759 posts
Personally I think they need someone controversial on the view. I liked Elizabeth because of her strong conservative views. Lots of people didnt agree with what she believed but does that make her wrong? Same goes for Jenny, she will have her strong view points and lots of people will not agree. The whole point of the show is to express all views and make people debate, I think she will be good.
coconut / 8475 posts
She's a dumbo. Is she funny? Yes. Is she beautiful? Yes. But, as far as her autism campaign went: she is detrimental to society. I don't care for her.
I did think her book was humorous, but not informative.
coconut / 8475 posts
@Lindsay05: Hassleback has opinions, conservative opinions. That's ok. She's entitled to them. What Jenny has are false facts. She states her reasoning as "facts" and spews them everywhere. She claims she cured her son's autism. Can autism be cured? Hmm.
I am all for controversial opinions and everyone is entitled to feel anyway they want, but to vomit out false claims as medical facts? No, Jenny, just.....no.
pomegranate / 3759 posts
@TurtleDoves: i agree but when you look at what the view is going for, ratings, this may help with that. If they were looking for certain level of intelligence, I doubt Sherri would be on there! I definitely agree, some things should just never be said but I have heard Joy and Barbara say some pretty ridiculous things!
persimmon / 1087 posts
@zippylef: ouch. I don't agree with her stance, but that's a bit harsh...
grapefruit / 4235 posts
Ugh. I can't stand her. You know that before she decided Evan had autism, she was convinced he was a "star child" she could heal with crystals? Also, if her son really responded that way to a gluten free diet it is unlikely he was actually autistic in the first place. I also agree she's detrimental to society - not only trying to convince others to not vaccinate but also giving parents of children with autism false hope about a cure.
pomegranate / 3872 posts
Blecch I really dislike her since her antivaccine crusade. But I hate the view too, so i'll just avoid all of them!
grapefruit / 4819 posts
She's an idiot and I hate that we give people like her a platform to air their erroneous views to the general public. It is even more disheartening that so many people take the word of 'celebrities' as truth. Ugh. I hate that she went to my high school, it's an embarrassment to the rest of us who graduated from there!
kiwi / 575 posts
Count me in as another person very disturbed by her anti-vaccination views, and concerned that she's being given a platform to share her mind on the topic. I also agree with @ree723: I really hope that parents *would* trust medical professionals or do independent reading rather than depending on the viewpoint of some random "celebrity", but that doesn't seem to be the world in which we live.
coconut / 8234 posts
I don't like the view. I've never liked Jenny McCarthy or understood her appeal--ever since that show she hosted on MTV. I was so disappointed when Jim Carrey started dating her because I love him!
coconut / 8234 posts
@MsLipGloss: Yes! That's the show. She annoys me. I don't pay attention to any of her crap, haha.
clementine / 797 posts
I have not watched The View in ages. Hiring Jenny McCarthy just ensured that I deliberately won't watch the show now. I think her anti-vaccine stance is a threat to public health and just not supported by research. Not to mention she says she cured her son's autism-way to put out misleading information to families with autistic children. Not a fan of hers.
coconut / 8475 posts
@Lindsay05: def. You're right:
The View sucks anyway Why do we care so much hehe
