Sure, why not? We bought our infant car seat off Craigslist. The couple we purchased from were very nice, and seemed perfectly legit. We saved well over $100 on last year's model, and it's in stunning, working condition. Even got it checked out with the fire department, and all is well.

I'm with @owlmom - even if a craigslist person said that they've never been in an accident, etc... i still wouldn't be inclined to just take their word for it. I might be ok buying a used carseat off a trusted friend, but never a random stranger from craigslist. Carseat is the absolutely last thing I'd buy used...

Nope, I would probably buy one from somebody I knew personally and was aware of their accident history or that they wouldn't lie about that stuff, but definitely not off a stranger on craigslist.

Used convertible carseats go like hotcakes on the local mom's resell page on Facebook. I wouldn't buy one used, but maybe you can find a resell page on FB and sell yours

I would never just because I don't know "you" so how can I know for sure the car seat was never in a accident?

But a lot of people will as I've seen on my FB local resale groups.

I would not buy one from Craigslist. I don't know who would lie about what, and its pretty much the number one safety thig for babies.

I would, and did, take a used infant seat from my sister but obviously I know how it was stored and never in an accident. I would even buy from a friend of a friend but that's it.

@Mrsjets: agreed! I just asked on here for a reco for a secondary car seat for ILs car. Everyone reco'd the Cosco Scenera which is $40! Budget is not an excuse for buying used from a stranger.

@owlmom: I agree. It would have to come from a close friend or trusted family member. It's just too big a risk otherwise.

I personally wouldn't, but if the choice for some parents is to not use a car seat at all or buy one used, then, I can understand buying used.

Personally, no. Car seats are very important and I would want to buy one new.

@erwoo: Indeed. I know it's a risk, but the car seat is literally in perfect condition, and the couple offered a DMV printout. True, I didn't know them well, but everything seems just fine.

I would never buy a used carseat off of craigslist. I would however, buy one used from a trusted friend or someone who I know personally. Are you part of any parenting groups where you can advertise the carseat? I'm selling my used infant seat to someone who I know in town, so that has worked well.

*shrug* Our local fire department gives away used, but confirmed safe car seats to low income families who can't afford one new. I definitely researched our choice, and made sure we covered ourselves to ensure that it was a safe situation. I would never knowingly put our child in harm's way, but we need to buy more than 2 car seats and figured we could still make informed, wise decisions, while saving some cash.

@erwoo: Oh, no problem; I didn't feel bad! I just realize I'm totally in the minority. I realize car seats are something most people like to purchase new, but I feel like we took the steps to make a good choice, and protect our LO.
