my nephew has the brookstone set and it's really nice! LO loved it. but it is expensive.
I was looking at some of the knock-off ones at target, michael's etc.
what brand do you have? would you recommend it?

We have the cheap one from target. There's no wooden box to play with it in or anything like the Brookstone one. It comes in a little plastic thing and was like $5. It's great and DS loves it.

@ValentineMommy: I just saw a set there today..I think $15-20? there weren't any prices (go figure). came with 1 lb sand, a plastic tray and some molds. that one?

No, ours wasn't even a set. It's literally in this tiny clear plastic thing (shaped like a #8 kindof) and it's filled with the sand. Kindof stocking stuffer sized, no extras.
Oh, here it is! We actually got him a second color for a stocking stuffer he loves it so much.

@ValentineMommy: ohhhh I think I saw that on the same display but farther down. I was trying to be quick and had O with me so I didn't get to really look at them! I'll have to go back out alone soon to investigate lol

The actual Kinetic Sand one at target, not the Cra-Z-sand one, that one sucks. We bought the 2lb tan one and will put it in our own container and buy molds/play-doh toys to use with it. It was $14.99 for 2 pounds, or theres one with a cheap plastic container and cheap molds you can get for $19,99 but you get a pound less of sand.

@Bao: I'd rather have more sand lol! that's the same brand @ValentineMommy: recommended too. sa-weeeeet.
I mean, brookstone is only $19.99 for 2.2 lbs, so similar cost. maybe i'll watch for sales/cartwheel/ebates/etc when I'mr ready to buy!!

@kayakgirl73: I'm sure it's something like 3+ (maybe more?)but I don''t follow those rules. Does your LO do ok with regular sand/play-doh?
pomelo / 5791 posts
@kayakgirl73: I think it says 3+, but my DS is only 21m and loves it. I just watch him to make sure it doesn't go in his mouth, but he's never really tried. He plays with play-doh a lot too, like @Bao: mentioned and does well with that.

Someone gave my daughter this set for her 2nd bday:
She loooooovessss it. I want to get her more sand but then she would probably go nuts.

We got some Kinetic sand on Amazon. The Sands Alive sand is cool, but it's not kinetic sand- it's more doughy and like a cloud (I love it). Kinetic sand is always moving, and feels more like brown sugar that isn't sticky. We also tried something by Shape It, calling themselves the "original sand play" and we hated it.
