Can you recommend your favorite brand and play set? And it can be played with indoors, right?
Thank you!

I don't know the brand, but the colored sand is more fun to play with vs. the natural-looking sand. It's important to get a good sized container and put some sort of tablecloth down for the sand particles that escape. Most sets come with teeny sand molds and those are fun.

I think what my kids have is the National Geographic (colored version). Note that the color can somewhat transfer to hands (per some reviews - ours is pink so I haven't really noticed this so much) and to clothes/other surfaces (I do notice this if my kids, say, sit in it).
It can be an indoor toy, but definitely is messy. If you play on a clean, smooth surface like a glass table top or smooth table cloth, it's easier to pick up the stray bits and not collect dirt/food crumbs in your sand. I recommend one container to keep sand in, and another container as a "play surface" for each kid to minimize mess (or just use the lid of your storage container). Plastic take-out containers work great!
One two-pound bag was enough for 1-2 kids; if you don't mind storing extra it might be nice for each kid that wants to play to have their own (and you might want to play, too - it feels nice!)

Get this:

Sandbox is included (and sand toys too!), so LO just plays with it in there and then closes it up when she's done. I got an extra bag of sparkly purple sand and it works great - it doesn't come with a lot of sand so there's plenty of space to add color.
Don't get "Beach Sand" texture, it's really gritty.

I feel like it’s made to be played with inside, although that doesn’t mean you can’t make a mess with it if you try hard enough.

The kinetic beach sand is way less messy than the colored kinetic sand. And I prefer the texture

We have the same set as @Rocker2014 and it works great. We got an extra bag of the beach sand to fill it out more. It does make a mess sometimes, mostly because it sticks to my kids clothes and then falls off elsewhere in the house. But it’s not too annoying to clean.

Word of advice: my kids love playing independently with it at 3 and 5. I set them up on a tablecloth on the floor to have a little easier cleanup and went to do a work call. In that time, they decided to use the tablecloth like a parachute and launched kinetic sand literally all over my kitchen and into the living room. It took 45 minutes to clean up and I'm still finding it in the back corners of my counters a week later!
Learn from my mistake, it is great for independent play, but they still need supervision in the room

my 4 year old LOVES kinetic sand. I usually put it in a tray or something, or he has to stay at the counter. some of it ends up on the floor and just getting trashed, but if you keep it contained its not too messy... I give rolling pins, cookie cutters and lots of little containers and things to move it around & play with.

@codeitall: Oh my gosh, did you freak out? I'm sure they didn't mean to make such a giant mess, but I would have had a hard time staying calm about that.

I got my 4 year old the same folding sandbox set mentioned above, and she loves it. It’s definitely messier than I expected (somehow she always manages to get it stuck to her clothing and then drag it around the house before I notice ), but not too bad to clean up.
I like the beach sand that came with it, but I accidentally ordered her a small green refill package for Easter and of course, she loves the coloured sand more. The colour did transfer to her hands, though, as others mentioned above.

@Chuckles: Somehow there was no yelling, but boy were my kids tired of cleaning up with me by the end. Fortunately I had a one hour break before my next work meeting so we could get it mostly cleaned up...

My 4 ,y/o has the kinetic sand brand. We got him the set that has the box to store and play in, and it maintains the mess pretty well. It is probably the best money we've spent toy wise for him. He got it for Christmas and still plays with it multiple times a week.
The playset came with a bunch of molds that seems to be enough to entertain him.

@MrsSRS: Yes this! Tho we have the colored/finer ones too and the girls like those better. But I basically only let them play with it on an open floor without any rugs near by and make sure they don’t have any stuck on their clothes and I kind of scrap them all back together to put away
