We were in Brookstone today and DS, who is 2.5, was entranced with the Kinetic sand they have there. I thought it might make a good Christmas gift. I have heard other people talk about it on here so I was wondering, if you have some, what brand did you buy/like the best. Brookstone's seemed a bit pricey but very nice quality. So any recommendations would be great!

We have the Waba Fun kinetic sand. It's about $15 on Amazon. I first saw it and played with it at the Learning Express. My kids love it and use Melissa and Doug sand toys to make sand cupcakes.

@travellingbee: We use activity trays from Lakeshore Learning. It comes in use for so many activities like play dough and painting.

@travellingbee: nope. We just use a jelly pan from the kitchen and use it outside.

@regberadaisy: no it's more like playdoh sand. Look it up on YouTube and you can see videos of it. It isn't messy.

@travellingbee: that's pretty neat! I've already thought of multiple ways my 3.5 year will make a mess of it....all of which ends in either my one year old eating it, or the dog. LOL Maybe in a few years.

@travellingbee: We have kinetic sand and it gets everywhere! Super messy, but totally worth it for the hours of entertainment.

@mrbee: like more than play doh? He was playing with it the store for like 15 minutes and a few bits fell on the floor but it was super easy to clean up...

@travellingbee: our kids can play with kinetic sand for hours! And it gets everywhere... we do a full vacuum afterward, because I can't stand the feel of sand beneath my bare feet!

DS loves it. It can get messy but I just sweep or vacuum it up. I have no idea what brand it is, got it for Christmas last year and we just keep it in a ziploc bag.

We have the brookstone kind .. We have a lot of it, it goes in a large flat sterilite. in reality it is very messy. The kids are only allowed to play with it on the tile now, where it can be swept up easily. It's been ground into the carpet too many times. My Ds buried some of his battery operated Thomas trains in it and that did not go so well for the trains. But they beg for it all the time.

We had kinetic sand, I let my son play with it in the kitchen where I cold sweep it up. I kept it in a container with a lid and he played with it for almost a year. I got my $15 worth, we got it at Michaels.
I finally had enough of it though, because no matter how careful my son was, pieces ended up on the floor. I put it in the garbage one night and that was that.
