I don't think it reflects poorly on you unless your work history makes it look like you always leave after a year or less (which might make an employer think you won't stay, or that there is a reason you only work for short periods of time).

I would probably come ready with a reason you're leaving, and I would NOT mention anything personal about the boss, although she sounds like a legit terrible person. Personally, I would probably say something about how you're enjoying your current position because of X, Y, Z but that you're looking for ______ type of advancement (and make it something that company B clearly fits with).

If it's a one time blip, it's easy to explain away. If you're constantly job jumping, that's more of an issue.

I wouldn't think twice about it. My husband has worked for 8 companies in the past 6 years (all FTE, not contract) and it hasn't seemed to discourage any employers from hiring him. I have some gaps (contract work plus mom dying plus moves) and the longest I've worked anywhere is 18 months - I haven't had an issue, either.

Prior to my current job, my longest employment period was just over 12 months. It didn't really affect me getting a job (that I know of) because every job change was related to relocation. Good luck on your interview!

@loveisstrange: I wouldn't worry about it. You've got honest, explainable reasons for having a varied job history!

If you have something lined up, I think it looks fine. I normally only question it when people leave a job before they have something else lined up. When they have gaps where they're not employed (or experiencing major life change), then I tend to assume they were fired and it took a while to find something else. Moving from one job to another doesn't bother me as much, as long as it's not constantly happening after short periods of time.

@loveisstrange: I've done this twice in the past few years. I've been laid off twice also in this time frame so my job history is all sorts of crazy. I just explained the situation and that I did not feel the current job was a good fit for me long term.

I have a few of these and I just don't put them on my resume. One was because there were red flags and I actually changed fields after it. But I wouldn't want to bad mouth an employer so I just include it in my gap as a stay at home mom. The other was a high school/college job. The last was when I did a job that started as volunteer work and put off processing as an actual employee for awhile and actually worked for free. (It was not high paying and I was really there for the experience..) I was there total a year but only an actual employee for half of that time. For that one I list the volunteer and work time as one item. I'm worried about finding a job but earlier this year applied for a few and got call backs so I guess I have a chance. I ended up not doing the interviews because I was sick and pregnant.
