a friend just emailed me this (not knowing i'm pg!) and it had me tearing up at my desk. i thought it was really beautiful and it made me more excited than i've been thus far!

Loved the whole thing, but these 2 parts were especially spot on:
"You will simultaneously need space and not need space because all you want to do is be alone and also never leave your baby with anyone else."
"Your marriage will be different. You and your spouse will see each other with a whole new set of eyes: a brand new microscope on each others’ triumphs and failures. One of you will be “too carefree” and one of you will be “too careful”—you will learn to meet in the middle, eventually. You will trust each other like you’ve never trusted anyone before, and you will learn to love each other as parents, which is a different kind of love. Your date nights will be sparse. Your sex life will be slow. Be patient, be patient, be patient. You'll be tempted to keep score of everything: the number of times you get up in the middle of the night, the number of diapers you've changed, who did the dishes last, whose job is harder. Listen to me carefully, momma. Score-keeping has no place in your marriage. Throw that scorecard away. The best thing you can do for yourself and for each other is to say “thank you” and “I love you” every single day. Be grateful, be appreciative, offer each other grace upon grace upon grace. It is easier said than done, but trust me in this: you both need it now more than ever."

@lawbee11: I agree with you about the first quote: "You will simultaneously need space and not need space because all you want to do is be alone and also never leave your baby with anyone else." Its so true!
@loki: Great post, made me teary-eyed.

Ugh, crying! This was my fav too :
"You will simultaneously need space and not need space because all you want to do is be alone and also never leave your baby with anyone else."
I feel that every day. I spend almost every moment lo is awake with her and sometimes I think omg I need a day off ! But then my husband watched her while I go take a shower and in those 30 minutes just a floor away I miss her so much!

You just made me ugly cry in the middle of a city sidewalk. So thanks for that.

@Amurray: the toddler part is what made me cry. That's the sound I wake up to every morning, followed by my dh saying "let's get momma!" And now lo finally at 17 months saying momma momma momma!. Big fat tears

I love this. Thank you for posting!
I needed this reminder today, "Score-keeping has no place in your marriage." It creeps up on me sometimes. But really, we're both in this together and doing the best we can. It will all even out and in the end, the most important thing is that our son is taken care of. Not that we both changed an equal amount of diapers today, or both washed the bottles, or did the laundry, or...

@loki: AH! You have me all teary at my desk now too! Thanks for sharing - this is so, so wonderful. I love to hear that no one really knows that they're doing at first, it gives me so much peace. Thanks again for sharing momma!

@loki: such a good idea to have DH read it - I think I'll do the same. I also love the image of the mom to be at target with popcorn and a slushie - that's like my favorite past time to do alone!
