I'm hoping to sign dd1 up for soccer next year at 4. She's always has great hand, eye, coordination! For this year we got her a soccer net with hockey sticks as well. It seems like she got DH's athlete gene!

I don't believe in organized sports until school age, probably. My three year old is already very active on her bike, though, and she does the kids race when her father races.

@Boogs: I'm still not a huge fan of those, personally. In my experience they're not super developmentally appropriate. BUT I have a crap load of beautiful parks and open spaces to take my kid - if I didn't, I'd probably seek more structured sport stuff just to get lots of good movement time. And maybe I've just seen some bad examples of classes.

I have no idea, but at 7.5 months, our son is SUPER athletic and squirmy and basically never stops moving. My husband jokes he's a Crossfit baby. He also needs LOTS of stimulation and won't even nap/sleep well unless he's been challenged physically during the day. Its frankly exhausting. So I think we'll have to enroll him in some kind of classes or play groups or something to keep him super active and stimulated.

Probably around 5? Maybe older. I wasn't 8 until I started. I'm big on organized sports for kids. DH and I think it's hugely important. They will do swim lessons while younger.

I used to teach toddler basketball. So useless. But it was good for getting the wiggles out, which I think is why most parents put their kid in something that young. It's a good energy burner, particularly during our gross winters

We did the soccer skills class when my son turned3, I think it was absoultely developmentally appropriate for him. The course we took required parental involvement and basically was lining up and then doing "drills" back and forth on the field. The drills weren't super complicated and the parents were often laughing hysterically, so it was a win for everyone.

we haven't done anything yet! i don't think either of our kids are super athletic yet. i would love to get them into baseball though because i love baseball!

She does gymnastics at day care. I am hoping to find one after work in the fall so I can take her and see it. She also will start swim lessons again this summer.

Real sports? Ideally never, lol. DH and I are not sports people, and I don't think they are necessary. LO gets plenty of socialization and team activities in other ways, and isn't the type of child who needs a lot of running, or running down, of energy.

We're looking into swimming (for survival, not competitive reasons) and dance, for fun. Sports though, LO can initiate an interest in - and if she does, we'll certainly support her.
