So, I just found out that I am likely going to Shanghai late in February for work. At my first doctors appointment I asked my doctor about international travel and she said unless circumstances change (i.e. something which makes me a higher risk pregnancy) she is comfortable with me traveling until 30 weeks - I told work 28 weeks to give myself a buffer!
Anyways, this flight is a 14 hour direct flight. My company's policy allows us to travel business for any flights longer than 12 hours however my department has taken the initiative to fly economy in all circumstances to save the company money. My boss told me yesterday (after confessing I was pregnant) that he was authorizing a deviation for me from our departments policy and allowing me to fly business in line with the Company policy. The price difference has been fluctuating from $7K to $10K between economy and business. I feel guilty spending that kind of money, even if it is the company's money.
My questions are this:
1) For those of you who have done long haul flights while preggo what do you think? Would business have been that much of a difference in your discomfort?
2) Will having a lay flat bed lessen my chances of clots? (I think this is the biggest risk of flying while pregnant)
3) My boss has said repeatedly (when I counter by saying "its too expensive") that he just was "us" to be comfortable and to have the peace of mind knowing he did what he could to keep "us" that way. Do I just graciously accept and move on? Or do I still run the cost past him one more time when I am about to book and just double check one more time that he approves?
Ugh...I just have terrible guilt about this...which I know I shouldn't!
Edit: FYI I will be 13 weeks when I leave and 14.5 weeks when I come back.
