I was originally thinking Mickey Mouse theme for his first birthday, but then thought maybe I want to do something a little more modern and not so character like. I've seen the "wild one" and some cute pictures from a camping theme party... but looking for other ideas...

How about a "little man" theme with moustaches?
Construction, fire trucks, the very hungry caterpillar, camping, and Pete the Cat are other birthdays we've been to.

We did a "How Time Has Flown," theme with airplanes. It was super cute.

What about Uno game (get it? One = uno)? I loved the theme and was going to do it for DD2 but went with elephants.

For LO's first birthday we didn't do a theme because she wasn't old enough to be in to anything yet. So the "theme" was just birthday party. For subsequent parties we are going with what she happens to be in to at the time. So don't feel like you have to have a formalized theme if nothing jumps out at you.

@gingerbebe had an awesome idea for "My Favorite Things" on our Sept 2014 FB group. She probably would do a better job explaining it, she had all of these ideas that tied into the theme. I'm not that creative -
Hahaha it wasn't that creative. @MrsLonghorn just said she was thinking about her son's favorite things but that he just liked his cups, baths, throwing food, and puffs, which didn't seem all that interesting. I said just make that the theme - like get one of those chalkboard stat boards made that lists his favorite things, make the menu a riff on his favorite foods (like if its pasta, then pasta salad, if its cheese, then a caprese salad, etc), have a candy bar that includes a bowl of puffs or yogurt melts as a joke, or set up a baby pool with his bath toys and cups to jump into after his cake smash/food throwing extravaganza. Things like that. She totally made it more awesome than anything I suggested and created incredible invitations and all that.

Do you have a song you sing to him each night? Something special like that. I sing Twinkle Twinkle to her every night so we did that for a theme.

DS is obsessed with balls so we are having a sports-themed party. I got a bunch of foam fingers for decorations bc they fit the sports theme & they obviously say #1 on them!

We did a Twinkle Twinkle Star theme because he loves that song. We did primary colors and used his monthly pics and balloons as decorations.

My latest idea has been a "Go Dog Go" themed party based on the Dr. Seuss book. You can have a build your own hotdog bar and other themed food and activities (red light green light?) Doesn't work for me... LO2 is one in February and not really hot dog time!

He wasn't really in to anything specific, so we did a PJ party and served brunch. All the kids wore their pyjamas. It was cute!

We did "apple of my eye" because it was fall. Really the first birthday is the best time to do a theme YOU like! By two, they have things they are into usually.

We're having LOs first birthday party next month and decided on little man theme with mustaches. It was between that theme or a bubbles theme. Will do the bubbles theme next year.

My first is a December baby, and we did a Winter ONEderland theme. I'm contemplating a Hungry Caterpillar theme for my second but haven't decided.

FWIW, I am not being creative for my own LOs birthday. We did a nautical whale theme for his nursery so we are sticking to that for his bday after I mixed a hockey/Detroit Red Wings theme in case DS grew up to hate hockey. We got him a sweet little British style sailor outfit, we will be serving "Sam-wiches" because his name is Samuel, and then we will have a Korean doljabi and put him in his Korean hanbok. There will be cake and summery food. That's it!

We did Mickey Mouse for DS1 and Winnie the Pooh for DS2. I thought about doing a brown bear theme based on the Eric Carle book because he loved looking at the pictures.
Haha but my son is obsessed.
