I had a parent-teacher conference this morning with LOs daycare. They said they are "concerned" because she is almost 6 mo old and is not sitting up very well (cannot sit unassisted for more than 2 seconds unless she has a boppy around her). They also said they are concerned that she doesn't look at my DH when he is walking out of the room and says, "Bye, bye, J". They said we need to work on eye contact and do more tummy time.
We already do a lot of tummy time, but it's hard because she doesn't like it for very long and will just roll over when she's sick of it. I put her back onto her tummy, but if she's tired of it, she'll immediately roll back. They said that I should prop her up on a boppy on her tummy so she can't roll, but I don't see what good that will do?
What about the eye contact thing? How am I supposed to work on that? She turns her head and watches me walk around the room and she smiles all the time when I smile at her (so that reassures me in terms of autism or something)... but she doesn't seem to know her name yet.
Would you be worried about these things or not pay too much attention to daycare's concerns?
ETA: My LO turns 6 mo next Tues and has a well-baby visit scheduled that day.
- but it sounds like they are over-reacting to me... especially about the sitting up - all babies develop differently, like all the pp's mentioned.
Sometimes I think she recognizes her name, but I think it's just wishful thinking since it's really only when I say it in a way that would have gotten her attention anyway. Now I've spent the day being overly eye contact-y with her! Anyway, it sounds like our LOs are the same age and level, so you're not alone!
