my back has been hurting like crazy. i've been dying to get a massage. there's a new place about five minutes from my house offering a great deal, and i'm really tempted. is it okay to get a traditional massage at 13 weeks? i really would like to lay on my belly and get the full deal.

Places around here don't allow first trimester massages, so keep that in mind! Might check with your doctor!

most places won't do it in the first trimester. you are right at the start of your second, so call to confirm that they'll do it and check with the doctor first. i got one at 15 weeks and it was DEEP and felt like heaven. baby is a-ok!

I got one when I was probably around 6 weeks and didn't know I was pregnant at the time--my back had been killing me. I had a major hemorrhage at 10 weeks. Not saying the massage caused it of course, but I would avoid at all costs.

I would wait until you are solidly in your 2nd trimester so there will be no doubt. I tried to lay on my belly, since my belly is still small, but the massage therapist made me lie on my side. They don't want to take any risks either.

I'm going to go against the grain here.
I had one at 7 weeks, knowing I was pregnant, and it was okay. She let me lay on my stomach too. If you are still comfortable laying on your front, I'd talk to your doc, explain what you want and why, and let them advise you.
