Did anyone see this article about Roald Dahl's letter about his daughter who died from measles ?

@Danizaur: That is awful. I feel for those parents, what a terrible situation.
@dc yoga bee: that broke my heart. How quickly we forget the way things used to be
Side note: I also saw this earlier today and...it infuriates me. He needs his medical license revoked, stat (assuming he still has one). This is so dangerously irresponsible, especially given current events, and he needs to stop immediately. http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/elections/rand-paul-vaccines-can-lead-mental-disorders-n298821

@MrsSCB: That is some impressively slanted reporting by NBC. You'd think there was an election coming up or something.
Here's a more complete version of what Paul said, with an accurate headline: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/02/02/rand-paul-m-d-says-most-vaccines-should-be-voluntary/
“While I think it’s a good idea to take the vaccine, I think that’s a personal decision for individual’s to take,” Paul said.

@honeybear: It is in no way slanted. The Washington Post also includes this quote: "He said that he has heard stories of children who developed "profound mental disorders" after being vaccinated. Paul did not say which vaccines those children had received." It is irresponsible to imply that vaccinations lead to profound mental disorders, especially without any actual details or facts to back it up.

@dc yoga bee: I saw that then other day. It's so powerful perspective since his daughter died of measles and his son is autistic.
There have been two cases of measles at Santa Monica HS. Luckily mine here yet (at schools).

@MrsSCB: He acknowledged that there are injuries that have occurred as a result of vaccines. That's a fact and it's not "irresponsible" to acknowledge it. If anyone is being irresponsible here, it's the NBC writer who failed to note that he also said it was a good idea to take vaccines.

@honeybear: It says in the second paragraph that he called them "good".... Of course vaccine injuries happen, but describing them as "many" and referring to them causing "mental disorders" directly plays into the unfounded fears re: vaccines and autism, something a doctor should know not to do. Anyway, we're obviously coming at this from very different perspectives, and I don't want to derail the thread any further, but rest assured I have actually read his comments and watched the full interview and still hold the same opinion.
