Hello! I’m needing a little piece of mind. We had our 7 week scan and they indicated the baby was measuring 5 days ahead of my LMP due date. I am concerned because I have Type 1 diabetes and I know exactly when we DTD and conceived. Am I already measuring big from the diabetes or is this something that is common? This is our second child and our first measuredn right on time. Any words of wisdom are much appreciated!

I seem to recall being told that early scans are accurate to within plus or minus 5 days, so yours sounds like its within the tolerance range for when you conceived. Congratulations!!

At this age they’re so tiny that the slightest change in measurement can make a substantial change in dating. Even different techs will get different dates. I wouldn’t worry about it at all. Congratulations!

Both mine measured ahead and we never had any diabetes issues. They were just bigger babies.

It's very common for baby to measure ahead/behind that early. Implantation could have occurred earlier than average, measurements could be off, etc.

We did IUI with both my boys and they both measured 5 days ahead at my early scans.
How was your first pregnancy? My sister has type 1 diabetes too and had to deliver all three of her kids 2-3 weeks early due to their size and her blood pressure. I hope it's an uneventful pregnancy for you!

My 2nd LO measured a few days ahead early on and kept measuring more and more "ahead" throughout the pregnancy. He was a big-ish baby at almost 9 lbs but not *huge* and no diabetes. My 1st LO was also perfectly average the whole time. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise I would just assume you've got a bigger baby this time around but no other health concerns.

When I got PG with DD1 I knew the exact day. Like...we only DTD once that month because I was traveling for the rest of it.
At my dating U/S I was measuring a week behind, I was devastated something was wrong. They moved my due date back 1 week from when I predicted based on conception.
I delivered 1 day after their adjusted due date. Its early, size can be variable....try not to worry!

I think it’s too early to worry. Dates are vague at this point.
For DS2, I measured a couple of weeks ahead most of my pregnancy. He was born at 38.5 weeks and was almost 10lbs. No diabetes for me, just a big baby. He still is in the 95-100% for height and weight at 18 months old.

@Allykat0518: I had a similar thing with baby number 2 as well. He measured 5 days ahead even though i was very sure of my dates. Just keep in mind that the exact day and time of conception is always unknown. Sperm can survive for several days in the uterus!

@KT326: my first pregnancy went totally fine with my diabetes until 35 weeks when my placenta failed. Thankfully, my little guy only spent days in the NICU!
