We have a Subaru Legacy with 3 in the back. It is a TIGHT fit but totally doable. We have a Graco Affix booster, a Graco Snugride, and a Graco Tranzitions. We've been waiting until this car is paid off, then we'll be getting an SUV later this year--we're thinking the Mazda CX-9.

I have 2 kids and drive a 2018 VW Atlas. It’s got plenty of room for a third car seat and a real legit (and actually accessible from the front) third row. Even with the third row there is still trunk space. It’s defiantly big but really doesn’t drive like a big car. I love it.

@autumn865: oh, i've been very interested in that one because of the fact you can keep the car seat on there to access the 3rd row! seems like the best of both worlds where you may not nee the 3rd row all the time, but when you do, it's easy to use!

Right now I'm driving a Dodge Grand Caravan. It's fine but I'm still getting used to my oldest being in the third row. Kind of a pain to get back there to check that he's buckled right with 2 rear facing car seats. I do love the remote doors and trunk but trunk space is kind of tight with the third row in use. Still a new car for me so I can't say much more.
Previously I had a Honda Pilot. I loved being able to have all 3 in the second row and my oldest could help with the youngest or even middle siblings. Trunk space was great with the third row down. Problems were that once the baby grew out of the bucket seat you could only access the third row by the trunk, leg room in third row is tight especially with RF car seats in second row, it is HUGE to drive and gets terrible mileage. With all that said, I think Honda is the best when it comes to placement options for car seats.
We also use a Subaru Outback and it fits our 3 seats fine and is great to drive. If we didn't need the third row quite often it would absolutely be my everyday car!

@skipra: good to know about the outback! We have one now and are on the countdown to 3. I’m hoping I won’t hate it once we have all 3 seats back there but I love it now and not worried about cargo space at all! DH just bought a new truck last year so I’m 1-2 years from something different anyway!

@Mrsbells: WOw! Congrats on baby #3!
We drive the Honda because I can fit all three across in the middle.

We have a three year old and twin 3 month olds and have a Honda Odyssey. All three are in the second row, two infant buckets and a diono radian, it’s tight but they fit like a dream. We were originally going to put our oldest in the third row but I hated the idea of having to climb in and buckle him. We love both the car and the seat we have and plan and getting the twins diono’s when the time comes.

I just have a standard 5 seater station wagon! 2 diono Rainier seats and my Britax bucket fit great!

@autumn865: thanks so much for recommending the vw atlas. We went to look at it a few times and fell in love with it! We decided to go ahead and get it and it is so awesome to finally have space!

We have a Prius and I'm hoping we won't need to upgrade. DS is old enough for a booster, so it'll just be two car seats and a booster in the back. Sadly, no way we can squeeze in another adult, but that's been a problem for some time anyway...

This post has been SO helpful! We do have 3 kids across in our Subaru Outback & our older model Mitsubishi Outback (one convertible, one infant, & one high back 5 point booster/ combo seat). It works but it's getting harder and harder to not feel claustrophobic and get the growing baby wedged into the middle seat. We're actually car shopping this weekend - we were thinking mini van for sure but now I'm going to check out some of these 3 row SUVs too (especially the Atlas!)

@MrsLonghorn: The Diono Radian is a magical car seat! It's so narrow and can be used for infants up to 70 lbs or something like that. I love that I can literally put any of my kids in it if needed.

@YogiRunner: We love our Outback too and now I am really drooling over the new Subaru option w/ 3 rows. THANK YOU!
