Do your babies look at you through their mirror? I'm just wondering if they're more for you to be able to look at baby or do babies interact back seeing mom/dad in the mirror? If they do, how old are they?
ETA: I'm specifically asking to see where P stands in this kind of interaction... so any time it's done, whether red lights, etc, would be much appreciated to know.

I use ours to look at M. I often will take her for a ride when she won't nap and it's handy to be able to see once she's fallen asleep. She does not notice me in the mirror, but she's only 2 months old. Ours is soft and has little seesaw birds on it that bounce back and forth and she does smile at those.

We've always had a mirror with DS2 (though I know they're considered unsafe, I couldn't sit in the back with him ever and he was in a big convertible seat and I needed the peace of mind to check on him.) But since he's been old enough to see good enough he's watched us in the mirror. If he's upset we can look at each other in it and it helps calm him down. He's 20 months now so I could get rid of it and be ok I just forget.

We have one and L has been waving to us in it for about a month. She'll be nine months in a few days. In the beginning I like it for my peace of mind but now I love the interaction.

I had it around the 9 month mark. When i visited my parents, the drives were really long and i wanted to know whether she fell asleep or if everything was okay.
We still use it, but just to check everything is fine. I don't really use it to interact because i don't want to get too distracted!

In my car he can only see me if I scrunch down and turn around. And usually he isn't looking in the mirror. It is more for me because he hates the car and cries a lot. I'm always worried that maybe his finger is pinched in it or who knows what else. With the mirror I know he is fine. Just mad about being strapped down in the seat.

I mainly use ours to look at S. Though, if I'm a passenger, when I turn around to look at the mirror at S, he will wave at me. Totally melts my heart

Jake could care less about looking at us I have one for my own peace of mind. He's now FF at 16mo (I know, he's supposed to be RF until 2, please no lectures our ped okayed it bc he's the size of a 2yo;) and looks in my rearview mirror and laughs when our eyes meet.

I also love that I can see when he's asleep or if he's falling asleep. I've had it in the car since he was born.

we have had it from the beginning more for my piece of mind. I can't see her through the rearview mirror because her seat is behind the passenger, but if I turn around she will look at me in it. I think this started a few months ago (she's 1). She now knows to look in it for me, and will say "hi!"

My son was rearfacing until just this past month, in a convertible, so I had the mirror to be able to see if he fell asleep or not, which he hardly ever did.
Given I could see his face in my rearview mirror, but he could only see his face, I don't think there's really a lot of parental/child interaction going on...does your daughter recognize herself when she sees herself in a mirror?

This is 100% a survey post on interaction to age so I can note it for P... not a safety post at all.
@looch: She does seem to like seeing herself in the mirror, but sometimes watching her I can't tell if it's "baby in the mirror" or not. Idk if that makes sense, but sometimes she does things that don't seem "interactive" even though it's close to the same behavior that would be. Ie. She seems to like to hit on the mirror at our house as opposed to "watch" what she does in it.

@runsyellowlites: I don't know if this is at all helpful - but I read recently that to see if baby understands if it's themselves or "baby" in the mirror, to put a red dot on their nose (lipstick, etc). if they touch their own nose, they comprehend that the baby is actually themselves..if they touch the mirror, they don't yet comprehend that. I'm not sure what age they "should" get it, it was just in one of my recent weekly emails! O for sure cannot figure out that it's herself yet.

IDK if she ever looks at herself in the mirror or at me. In both our cars, the angles are kind of weird. I place them mainly so I can check to see if she has fallen asleep.

@sorrycharlie: Oh then she definitely doesn't get it. I can say right now without even doing it she wouldn't touch her own nose.

@runsyellowlites: I am trying to remember when my son "got it" with mirrors, I want to say it was around 18 months? I wasn't particularly paying attention to it as a milestone, FWIW.
Another thing you can do is see if she recognizes a picture of herself...like if you cut out a picture of her face and put it on a sippy cup. Ask her to bring you the P sippy cup. I read that they are supposed to be able to do that under 1 year.

@looch: Yea, she won't do that. 
She won't even put together "sippy cup" with "bring me.." The only commands she really knows/follows are "no" and "come here" (if I wave to myself and get really really animated and walk aside her like when going from one room to the other). She doesn't bring me anything or "let go" of things.

C definitely uses her mirror to look at us. I don't know what age she started, but she does it and is currently 18 months.

We use the mirror both ways. I play games with him in the car like "can you clap?" And he'll look at me, smile, and clap. Or I'll ask "how big are you?" and he'll look at me and lift both hands over his head. Or "where's my baby?" and he'll cover his face and we'll play peek-a-boo.
ETA: LO is 15.5 mo., and we've been doing this for months now.

I forgot to add that LO is 12 months.
I think he "got" mirrors early on though. Around 10 months, my DH would hide behind the bathroom door, and he would know that he could see him in the mirror, but understand that the mirror was not DH and that he was actually behind the door. So he would spot him in the mirror, then immediately look behind the door to find him in the room. Does that make sense?

I don't remember ever noticing my LO looking back at me/interacting. And I moved her forward facing around 20 months so I don't have any info past that age.

my lo is 13 months and if i turn around so that i can see myself in his mirror (so that he sees me in the mirror as well) he will interact with me. a few times i've even been able to get him to see me just by looking in the rear view mirror, which he can see in his mirror. (if that makes sense)
he looooves looking at himself in our full length mirror and is always squatting or doing hand movements to see if the reflection will do it also. i'm pretty sure he doesn't get that it's him.
