@Mrs. Jump Rope: we left our curtains at our place which we rent not sold. I wasn't planning on using in our new house.
I haven't received any weird requests but I had someone purchase my condo without looking at it. The condo market was super hot and she didn't want to lose it, so she went off internet pictures.

Our previous owner left us all her curtains... I wish she hadn't! Super dusty lacy goodness.
I didn't know we were allowed to ask for stuff! The previous owner had a HUGE wall clock that fit *perfectly* in a spot in the house, and I wanted it sooo badly. She was moving into a small condo so she probably just got rid of it rather cheaply

@MamaMoose: I only have experience buying this house, back in 2009. Most places didn't include appliances. This particular house didn't even have any in it, but we were happy to buy our own!
They did leave the curtains in every room which were godawful and HEAVY. It was a pain taking them down and throwing them out! They were nasty and gross.

@MamaMoose: Things have a way of working out, don't they? If we move and our place has a pool, we're taking our pool heater!
Our house included all appliances, plus the owners left us their pool furniture and some shelves inside the house.
Regarding window treatments, I think if they're custom or for special sizes, it makes sense to leave them...especially if you know you can't use them in your new place. I plan on taking mine with us, but then again, our current windows are on the smaller side (50 year old house) and who knows what the future holds. I just can never forget what I spent!

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I think it's also different based on where you live. I bought a condo in 2001 and it came with all appliances. I then purchased a townhouse in 2007 and it again came with all appliances.
