Besides cleaning up after the guys in the office, which all of us refuse to do, I was asked to do a salesperson's daughter's resume, which I promptly refused and let him lose his shit

ETA: My exact words were "Daddy didn't help do my resume, let her learn the real working world herself."

Worst I've heard though is a girl in our company in another office was called one morning to pick up her boss because he was hungover (and too lazy to ask his wife......). I gave her hell when I found out she did it. Dude walks around the office spitting on the floor (and in your face when he talks to you). I don't know how they still employ him.

@Eko: haha! I always think it's awkward when Walgreen's cashiers have to say "Be well" to customers. Last week I was in line behind a guy who bought cigarettes and the cashier said "Thanks and be well!"

@mrsh @betsyboop I have heard them say it occasionally. Might be a case of what I use to do and never said 'my pleasure' unless a manager was near and could hear me lol.

My first job out of college was an academic year-long research "fellowship" at a very small think tank, basically a glorified paid internship, but it was intended to be a really substantive intro to research. About halfway through the year, they fired the receptionist because she was pretty terrible, but rather than replacing her they split her administrative duties between a few of the junior staff. So on top of the work I already had, we had to take turns answering the phones and I was put in charge of office supplies. I know WAY too much about ordering office staplers now!

@MrsLilybugg: I could have written your post. I, too, was a receptionist at a law firm and I had to do the EXACT same thing! Or I would have to bring in Starbucks orders!!

In the past, I worked at Victoria's Secret and was asked to climb up on a HUGE ladder in my high heels and change a light bulb. Those ceilings are high! And they wouldn't let me take off my shoes. I didn't stay there long.

Another job I had was as a preschool teacher and I would get the most bizarre requests from parents. I was once asked to take a picture of a child's stools at every diaper change for a week and text the picture to the parent. They were concerned about their digestion or something and dad was a doctor (most of my kids' parents were doctors or lawyers there) so I totally get it, but that was definitely odd at the time as a 20 year old college kid. Haha.

When I worked the register at a concession stand at a movue theatre we all had to pitch in with cleaning up each night. I had the disgusting task of cleaning the nacho cheese machine. I maybe did this once or twice before calling dibs on something else and then permanently became in charge of counting the candy and putting it away for a manager.

When I worked back drive thru at Mickey D's I was supposed to put the happy meal bags together and wash dishes. Bags no problen. Dishes heck no! I refused and the manager had other employees do it. I later would make the bank runs for the manager.

My first job was at an ice cream parlor, and defrosting the freezers SUCKED. You had to take the huge metal containers of ice cream out, carry them (super heavy, of course back to the freezer and then use a combo of a sledge-hammer type thing with a scraper to get the ice off, because the owner was insanely cheap.

I also worked at a tech store (I'm sure you can figure out which one if this has happened to you) for many years. The worst thing we were asked to do was to try to get customers to engage in a personal conversation with us. Our corporate office decided that if customers had a friendly conversation with us they might be more open to our advice/suggestions and want to buy from us. I HATED it - I want customers to be able to trust my advice and come across as nice and honest (because I am!) - not like some greasy used car salesman asking you questions about your kids, the sports team whose gear you're wearing, what they're up to that weekend, etc. Oh, and I was supposed to train people in my department to do the same thing. My managers knew how I felt about it...honestly, I pretty much just didn't do it and they ignored it because I had some of the highest sale numbers anyways.
