Another update, he tested positive for ebv antibodies making it likely that the cause is viral. Not sure what that means for his prognosis yet but I feel more comfortable that it won't happen again.

I just saw this thread and want to send my support. I understand everything you are thinking and going through. The thing that is amazing is that babies are so resilient! I am glad you are at UCLA getting the best care possible and I hope he keeps improving.
LO was in the NICU during all of the holidays last year which was really hard, but doing "normal" things like making footprint Christmas cards and taking family pictures in Christmas outfits made it feel a little better. I'll be thinking about you!

Sending prayers your way.
My sister had a hepatitis of unknown origin. She was an adult at the time and got very very sick. But she recovered. It's amazing how the liver can recover from being attacked like that. I'm going to pray that the same thing happens with your little one. Hugs.

His numbers continue to get worse and we just wait for a liver but tonight he responded really well to the new dietetic and he's shedding a lot of his excess water weight and is feeling a lot more comfortable and acting more like himself, which warms my heart.
