LO is 5.5 months old, and before, it seemed so much easier to put him down for his naps. He might fuss for less than a minute, but then find his little hand and calm himself down and fall asleep shortly after. Nowadays, once I leave the room, he starts crying and cries for a really long time before knocking out. What happened to the hand-sucking? Why ain't he self-soothing? *Sigh* This has been occurring for the past two weeks!

@cranberryapple: Same here! My DD used to be a GREAT self soother but lately it seems like she just forgot how to self soothe! I'm just going to continue our sleep routine and hope that this phase passes soon!

@cranberryapple: since he is 5.5m, his schedule could changing? (Maybe switching to 2 naps?)
I'd try putting him down earlier. He could be so irritable and fussy that it is taking him longer.
My LO used to take about 5-7mins at nap time..now I stick him in his crib about 25mins earlier and it takes him 2min of fussing-tops.

I agree with turtledoves, 5.5 months is when my kids nap schedule went totally haywire. They were fighting naps no matter when I put them down it seems. I think it just took a little time for them to work it out, but I started trying to put them down after 90 min awake again, and they usually go down easily. If they're still pretty wired after I do the nap routine at 90 min, I try again at 2 hours, 2.5 hours, 3 hours.

DS still doesn't self-soothe, but I've started putting him down later rather than his usual 1.5 hour awake time. That has been working a lot better! We're back to minimal fussing!

@cranberryapple: My LO is almost six months old and we are now having the. exact. same. problem. but looking through the nap threads I'm not alone!
Our naps are now so hit and miss and the naptime tantrums are wearing me down... Please tell me that it's going to get better!

@Kemma: I will say it gets better....before he gets worse? Hehehe. I'm kidding...sorta. My LO is now 8 months, and he never re-learned to self-soothe by sucking on his hand. We increased his awake time to 3 hours (from 1.5-2 hours) and that helped him fall asleep better. Now that he has learned to sit up and pull himself up in the crib, it sometimes takes an hour for him to fall asleep. He'll end up playing around in his crib, get tired, fuss and then fall asleep. I just let him do his thang. In fact, sometimes, I take fussing in his crib as a sign that he's now serious about falling asleep. Also, we had trouble with him constantly ending up head flushed against the crib and he did not like that. We recently put up bumpers so that has also helped to decrease the crying.
